So let me get this straight: The base model iPad gets a landscape camera (yes) and a brand new Magic Keyboard Folio (yes!) with a detachable keyboard, kickstand (yes!!), and function keys (yes!!!), but the iPad *Pro* gets...none of this? 🙃 https://twitter.com/...
  • @markgurman Mark Gurman on x
The new low-end iPad gets the horizontal/landscape camera, but the new iPad Pro somehow does not.

Never thought I'd see the day! The iPad camera now where it belongs. https://twitter.com/...

Imagine being a normal consumer walking into an Apple Store to buy an iPad. This lineup is so confusing, especially when actually dive into the individual features. https://twitter.com/...

@ParkerOrtolani Bro they Pro'd the wrong iPad. 😳

    iPad 10 is not laminated 💀 https://twitter.com/...
  • @pierce David Pierce on x
I'm 99.99% sure the base iPad is now the best iPad and the one almost everyone should buy https://twitter.com/...
  • @chancehmiller Chance Miller on x
I'm guessing the lack of Apple Pencil 2 support for the iPad 10 is because it doesn't have a laminated display? I have no idea otherwise.
  • @geoffreyfowler Geoffrey A. Fowler on x
WOAH the price of a new entry level iPad has shot from $329 to $449? What happened to the idea that iPads are an affordable starting point for families, students and schools? (Even the educational discount price is $419.) https://www.apple.com/...

I just feel like, if your tablet lineup requires you to have six different keyboard models with names like “Smart Keyboard Folio for iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation) and iPad Air (5th generation) - US English” you've probably made a wrong turn somewhere https://twitter.com/...
  • @jamesdueck James Dueck on x
Six iPad models. If Steve Jobs came back he'd immediately axe 3 of these. https://twitter.com/...
  • @naaackers @naaackers on x
That Apple press release was...silly. Lot of questionable decisions and the iPad lineup is messy and confusing. Nothing worth praising 😂
  • @dktadc Dakota Cammarn on x
I would be nice to see Apple take a look at price points and clean up the iPad lineup a bit-it's starting to get crowded & confusing. https://twitter.com/...
  • @rsgnl Joe Rossignol on x
Okay and if the 10th-gen iPad gets the M1 chip per that single sketchy report, maybe the iPad mini does too today? Then you have full Stage Manager support across the iPad lineup. Probably getting ahead of myself and the 10th-gen iPad gets the A14 chip as more widely rumored.

Good lord, what is going on with the iPad lineup 😬 https://twitter.com/...
  • @_alexguyot Alex Guyot on x
My overview of the new iPad and iPad Pro lineup is up @macstoriesnet: https://www.macstories.net/... This was a tricky one to write. None of these iPads are *bad*, in fact they're all quite good in a vacuum. But in context of each other and the full lineup, they're just super wei…
  • @jaypeters Jay Peters on x
Knowing what works with what in Apple's iPad accessories lineup is kinda tough right now, especially after the new stuff Apple announced today. https://www.theverge.com/...
  • @filipeesposito Filipe Espósito on x
I'm definitely not a heavy iPad user. I mainly use my iPad mini 6 and the old iPad Air 3. Considering buying a new one, but honestly, the lineup is so confusing right now...
  • @saranbyte Saran on x
Apple's ruined the iPad lineup https://twitter.com/...
  • @xodiumretro Mr. Punch on x
Apple be like “let's go back to the 90s” In all honesty the new iPad should be unlaunched just like the 4080 12GB was. It doesn't really have a place in the lineup. It's too close to the Air, so you might as well buy the Air, and it's too expensive for the $329 crowd. https://twi…
  • @corduroy Joshua McKinnon on x
I challenge you to illustrate Apple's iPad lineup in a way that makes even half as much sense as this picture https://twitter.com/...
  • @jsnell Jason Snell on x
@JrodWilliams I think the iPad Pro is just a speed bump. It is what it is. They can't redesign the device every year. Unfortunately I think it has exposed maybe a lack of cohesive planning across the entire line.

“The absence of Apple's pro media apps on the iPad Pro is an embarrassment. All these other apps are great, yes, but Apple has had an opportunity to take the lead in defining what the pro app experience should be on one of its platforms and has never seized it.” https://twitter.c…
  • @steven_aquino Steven Aquino on x
Another good piece on today's new iPads, this one from @jsnell. The Apple Pencil 1 is a fine accessory, but it boggles the mind Apple didn't add support for v2 given all the trouble they went to redesign the iPad. Even my new iPad mini has it! https://sixcolors.com/...
  • @twostraws Paul Hudson on x
I have no idea how the regular iPad keyboard gets an escape key while the much bigger Pro one does not. (Yes, I've remapped Caps Lock.) https://twitter.com/...
  • @stroughtonsmith Steve Troughton-Smith on x
Oh neat, the new cheap iPad keyboard comes with function/media keys 👀
  • @javi @javi on x
Wanna know why Apple didn't host a keynote today? These product decisions are inexcusable and would've looked silly. They shipped this + other nice new features that aren't on the also new, much more expensive iPad Pro. And it needs this ridiculous dongle: https://www.apple.com/.…
  • @mgsiegler M.G. Siegler on x
That said, looks like the new entry iPad has a new Magic Keyboard — with media control keys, which the other Magic Keyboard does not. Weird! https://www.apple.com/...
  • @dcseifert Dan Skellington on x
the new magic keyboard folio is basically a clone of the logitech combo touch and countless other tablet keyboards and it costs $250
  • @parkerortolani Parker Ortolani on x
The new iPad keyboard has function keys!!!!! https://twitter.com/...
  • @mattcassinelli Matthew Cassinelli on x
Oh whoa the new base iPad keyboard is super nice and splits into two parts — you can detach the keys but still have the folio part 👌 I currently have an 11" Pro with two cases because one didn't solve both setups before https://twitter.com/...
  • @tme_michael Michael Burkhardt on x
This new Magic Keyboard Folio for iPad 10 is interesting. Just like Logitech Combo Touch, it's $249, so slightly cheaper than full Magic Keyboard https://twitter.com/...
  • @stevemoser Steve Moser on x
I wonder if the new Magic Folio keyboard ($249) is a good bit lighter than the Magic Keyboard ($349) since it doesn't need the same hinge.
  • @jasonaten Jason Aten on x
@stephenrobles Okay, but can we talk about the Magic Keyboard Folio and how it's the keyboard Apple should have made all along. https://twitter.com/...
  • @stevemoser Steve Moser on x
Comparison of the new Magic Folio keyboard (left) for the new iPad vs the existing Magic keyboard for the iPad Pro (right). https://twitter.com/...
  • @basicappleguy Basic Apple Guy on x
@MacRumors @HartleyCharlton This is mind boggling! Rather then just biting the bullet and moving the iPad to Apple Pencil 2, Apple sticks with the OG pencil and ships it with an adapter that'll certainly be lost within seconds. 🤯
  • @ijustine @ijustine on x
Wait omg the new iPad is USBC and the Apple Pencil is NOT I JUST FELL OVER AND CANNOT GET UPPPPPPP. It comes with a USBC adapter.
  • @parkerortolani Parker Ortolani on x
The pencil adapter should be in the box. Weird omission for something that they claim is so vital to using the iPad.
  • @benricem Ben McCarthy on x
@_chuckyc Oh that is bizarre. Do they just have a warehouse full of them they're trying to get rid of?
  • @parkyprakhar Prakhar Khanna on x
Apple Pencil Gen 1 users will need to buy an adapter to charge their stylus with the new iPad as it gets USB-C but the Pencil is still using Lightning Port. Apple doing this instead of giving 2nd Gen Pencil support to iPad. And they removed chargers for the EnViRoNmEnT. LoL
  • @stephenrobles Stephen Robles on x
@JasonAten The adapter thing is crazy.
  • @phonedesigner Jonas Daehnert on x
So let me get this straight: The new entry-level iPad finally has USB-C, but it's only compatible with the first-gen Apple Pencil? And that's why you need an adapter to charge it on the iPad?
  • @jasonaten Jason Aten on x
@stephenrobles Hear me out - if they HAD released a new Apple Pencil version maybe they could have moved the camera to the long side of the Pro versions. iPad gets the new camera placement because it still only supports the 1st gen Pencil (and you now need an adapter to charge it…
  • @jasonaten Jason Aten on x
@stephenrobles Just make the Apple Pencil capable of charging on a MagSafe puck and be done with it. Seriously - that's the reason we still have to deal with the camera in the wrong place! That's a really poor trade off.
  • @_nachisuke @_nachisuke on x
@ianzelbo the worst thing about this new ipad that it's still using the 1st gen apple pencil and you need an adapter for it to pair 💀💀💀 https://twitter.com/...
  • @stroughtonsmith Steve Troughton-Smith on x
“Apple Pencil (1st generation) is compatible with the new iPad. A new USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter is required for pairing and charging and is included in the box with a new version of Apple Pencil (1st generation) for $99”
  • @jonyiveparody @jonyiveparody on x
    Only $.75/mo. for 12 months. That's a bargain! https://twitter.com/...
  • @jonathanheron Jonathan Heron on x
@stroughtonsmith An adapter. To charge the pencil. Because wireless charging the 2nd gen messed with margins, no doubt. It takes real effort to make the charging situation for Pencil 1st gen *worse*
  • @macobyte Dan Draper on x
@stroughtonsmith Which means there's now no way to charge this on the go without carrying an extremely tiny adapter. As awkward as it was to have it stick directly out the bottom of your iPad, at least it didn't require an extra piece.
  • @ianzelbo Ian Zelbo on x
Needing to cary around an adapter to charge and pair your Apple Pencil is a complete dealbreaker for me. I guess I have to go with iPad Pro now
