Surely everyone will know how to adopt App Intents starting February 23rd. Everyone is familiar with the framework and can make good, feature-complete solutions for the new Siri. *checks notes*

Idk man as someone looking to put a newsletter out this looks extremely bad and not something they should be talking about publicly. Unless I can convert 6% of the entire portion of paying subscribers, I can't build a sustainable business month-to-month.

@EthanLipnik All the vibe coding apps with mini experiences inside. Apple couldn't tell what was going on or if payments were being made, so rather than disallow it they can make sure nothing nefarious is happening as well as properly monetize

“One day soon” was six days later lol.  If Apple can provide an architecture for Mini Apps to integrate with App Intents & provide real system features, all my concerns are gone and this will be incredible.  I also like “Mini Apps” as an official name [Quote tweets his tweet thread from Nov. 6: “One day soon we're going to have to have a talk about making real apps.  You are not making iOS apps, you are making mini apps within a single window..."]

Apple just legitimized Mini Apps in a big way with this new Partner Program. I have recently been skeptical about these kind of vibecoding apps out of concern for platform support, but this is a massive step in the right direction: https://developer.apple.com/ ...

The main issue I have with App Intents is the inability to accept arbitrary input into a command, rather than a trigger phrase.  Apple's approach is parameterization of actions and semantic matching, but it still (currently) requires key phrases and the application title/alternate names ("recognize music" for Shazam).  Google Assistant has always allowed arbitrary input, where it figures out the intent and then which action to take.  If Apple can gain the ability for their robust intent platform to accept arbitrary input, then it's game over and Siri is going to kill it...

@JPFar It might not ever amount to anything “impressive,” but we'll all be using AI within all of our apps and have them all connected and take it for granted. And only Apple can build that, while not giving all the data and privacy (and benefit) to anyone but the end users.

Ivan Mehta / TechCrunch :

@Balolozano One thing that's super true is that all the value is piled up behind App Intents, and until that ships it is basically on you to dig into Shortcuts to uncover it. But that's why knowing about any of this is interesting, and the core of the delayed features of Apple Intelligence

The difference between how App Intents work in Shortcuts versus Siri has always been stark. The App Shortcuts Preview feature for testing phrases just doesn't work at all. Which has kept me skeptical about sprinkling LLM “magic” on top of this and it just working.
