I didn't think this was possible but the real disappointment of the day isn't Apple Intelligence - it's the “updated” Magic accessories.  They literally just...swapped the Lightning port for USB-C. No multi-device pairing, no design changes, nothing else.  The mouse still has the charging port at the bottom too. …

I reviewed the new iPad mini!  It started with disappointment.  Then I realized why, after the iPad Pro and Vision Pro, I still want an iPad mini in my life.  I'm pretty sure this is the only iPad mini review you'll see with David Lynch and Pilotwings in it. iPad mini Review: The Third Place https://www.macstories.net/...

iPad mini (2024) review: fast A17 Pro chip, delightful size, and Pencil Pro support, but less powerful than other iPads, outdated Touch ID and camera placement

Apple's smallest tablet got an upgrade — but it won't feel like much of one unless Apple Intelligence is better than it seems.

Some really good changes coming for default apps on iOS in the EU.  My realization in 2024 has been that the DMA fork of iOS is the best iPhone experience.  We can finally use our phones like actual computers with more default apps and apps from external sources.  Bring it on: https://www.macstories.net/...

Stage Manager for iPad launches today. It's confusing, buggy, and missing key features for pro users. Apple needs to fundamentally rethink it. Apple releases iOS 16.1, iPadOS 16.1, and macOS Ventura, with iCloud Shared Photo Library, Continuity Camera, Stage Manager for the Mac and the iPad, and more

Apple has released iOS 16.1, iPad OS 16.1 and macOS 13, as it announced it would do last week.

Basically: I like windowing more than I like Stage Manager. This feature is buggy, rushed, unfinished, and - most of all - without a clear purpose. As a pro iPad user, it's not good enough. Stage Manager can be salvaged, but there's a lot of work to do. https://www.macstories.net/... https://twitter.com/...

The second surprise is the Magic Keyboard Folio. It's not as stable for lap usage as the Magic Keyboard. But it's vastly more flexible, has a taller trackpad, function keys, and...a kickstand. Which I've been using as a giant PopSocket. https://www.macstories.net/... https://twitter.com/...

iPad (10th gen) review: great performance and battery, lots of apps, and USB-C, but accessories are confusing and expensive, high price, and average display

Apple's latest base-model iPad cribs a lot of features from the more expensive iPad Air.  But it also is considerably more expensive than before, making it a tough sell.

Two things surprised me about these iPads. The first one is Apple Pencil Hover on iPad Pro. It works for drawing but it's...surprisingly great as a pointer for the iPadOS UI too? It's like adding hover capabilities to your fingers. It's a lot of fun. https://www.macstories.net/... https://twitter.com/...
