Apple unveils the $299 Apple HomeView, a 7" smart display with an A18 chip, tabletop and wall-mounted versions, and “HomeView software”, shipping November 13

With customizable “faces,” this 7-inch smart display is a unique hybrid between an iPhone and an Apple Watch.

Wired Julian Chokkattu

Context & Ripple Effects

Apple’s home-display plans had been discussed as early as 2024, when reporting described a wall-mounted controller for appliances, calls, and app navigation. By July 2026, the plan had broadened into a hub alongside a refreshed Apple TV and HomePod mini; the product launch turns that reported smart-home hub into a retail device.

The HomeView is positioned as more than a shared control panel: its personalized interface supports up to six users and Siri AI within a closed Apple ecosystem, according to the day’s HomeView demonstration. Apple is also pairing the display with its Home Collection and collaborations with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric.

First-order effects

  • Apple gains a $299, screen-based entry point for its Home Collection, while buyers can choose tabletop or wall-mounted placement and receive the device beginning November 13.
  • LG Electronics and Schneider Electric gain a named integration route into Apple’s home lineup, making their accessories more directly relevant to HomeView buyers.

Second-order effects

  • The new display gives Apple a focal screen for the accompanying HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV strategy, concentrating entertainment, communication, and home-control interactions around one household interface.
  • Accessory makers seeking Apple household demand face greater pressure to support the Home Collection, because HomeView’s personalized controls keep the primary experience inside Apple’s software layer.

Third-order effects

  • If Apple extends HomeView’s household profiles and Siri AI across its accessories, smart-home competition shifts from individual devices toward the quality and breadth of a shared, identity-aware home interface.
  • The launch points to a smart-home market in which hardware partners supply endpoints while platform owners control discovery, personalization, and the central screen.

The trend: Smart-home platforms are moving from voice-led, single-device control toward personalized display hubs that bind accessories, media, and household identities into one software ecosystem.

So much is wrong with Apple's previous and current home strategy. It's obvious they have one foot in and one out. Prices for entry-level stuff (e.g., Apple TV, HomePod mini, etc) are too high, LG can no longer be trusted, no real differentiation, and all of it is coming too late.
  • @markgurman Mark Gurman on x
I find the $299 price for HomeView solid. Not super aggressive but reasonable all things considered. The $149 for the HomePod mini 2 is in the same category. But I think $299 for the Apple TV is a huge stretch and a cheaper model - a stick? - is now essential.
  • @stevemoser Steve Moser on x
Why does the HomeView (Wall Mounted) not cost less than the regular HomeView with a speaker base ($299)? Before Apple charged $1000 for a stand and now you don't save any money by going without the speaker base? I imagine some people are going to mount the regular HomveView with …
