New story: Apple is set to reveal its first Macs with its own chips on Nov. 10, replacing Intel. The the first ones: 13-inch MacBook Air, and 13 and 16-inch MacBook Pros. Also in the works: a redesigned iMac, new Mac mini and a half-sized Mac Pro https://www.bloomberg.com/...

What I'm watching for with Apple Silicon Macs: if they will offer multiple processor speed, graphics chips, and RAM options like they do with Intel Macs — or if it will be all standardized like iPhones and iPads. I'd guess CPU and GPU won't be customizable, but perhaps RAM will.
  • @jioriku @jioriku on x
In a kind of side step to @markgurman's Mac Pro information, people may be worried about the new version with Apple Silicon replacing the Intel versions existing now Good news, they aren't planning on that any time soon
  • @tapbot_paul Paul Haddad on x
I hope that's also half priced Mac Pro. https://twitter.com/...
  • @parkerortolani Parker Ortolani on x
So if they have the same designs... what will be Apple's big picture pitch? Will it be that they're just faster and more efficient? Three computers that look the same but have new chips don't seem like enough to justify using “one more thing...” https://twitter.com/...
  • @jonmasters @jonmasters on x
@IssaAnchorBaby @migueldeicaza Yawn. Apple is in a league all by itself. They don't have any competition when it comes to CPU performance. They'll do whatever they want, but it won't be constrained by technology
  • @raywongy Raymond Wong on x
“Apple engineers are currently developing a new Mac Pro that looks like the current design at about half the size.” Uhhhmmm yes pls @markgurman: https://www.bloomberg.com/...
  • @snazzyq Quinn Nelson on x
I haven't been this excited for an Apple product (Apple Silicon Macs) since the 2007 iPhone.
  • @somospostpc @somospostpc on x
Your 2020 Mac Pros are already OLD. I could take them out of your hands for half the price no questions asked 😆 https://twitter.com/...

Kind of happy that I went with the Intel 16 inch a few months ago. I'll use this thing heavily for the coming 3 - 4 years and then jump into one of the at-that-time-latest Apple-Chip Macbooks <3 https://twitter.com/...
  • @stroughtonsmith Steve Troughton-Smith on x
“Half-sized Mac Pro” == “even in the Mac Pro, we're not going to be using AMD GPUs. It's Apple Silicon integrated graphics all the way”
  • @jonmasters @jonmasters on x
Every year I would tweet asking Apple to do the thing that they should do at WWDC (announce a transition to Arm). This year, they finally did it. Next week, my money is on they blow everyone out of the water. All these suggestions that they'll go wimpy Air first aren't Apple bold
  • @tapbot_paul Paul Haddad on x
@stroughtonsmith I don't think that makes sense, there's very little point in making anything that's even close to half the size of a Mac Pro if you aren't going to allow PCIe expansion. Might as well target a Mini form factor.

Apple's switch to Apple Silicon Macs is deeper than its own ambition to be a chip designer. This — along with the shift from Intel modems to Qualcomm this year - is partly because of Intel's steep technological decline. Story with @debbywuintaipei https://www.bloomberg.com/...

Been waiting for Apple Silicon Macs for a long time....Can't wait. #applevent

JUST IN: Apple to announce new MacBook Air and MacBook Pros with its own chips next week, dropping Intel processors https://www.bloomberg.com/...

If Apple's introducing Apple Silicon in the 16" MacBook Pro, they're really pulling no punches — they clearly think their first-gen chips are powerful enough already to replace even their fastest laptops

Apple's divorce from Intel will begin on Nov. 10. Luckily, they never had kids, so that will make it a bit easier https://www.bloomberg.com/... via @technology @markgurman @debbywuintaipei

How can Apple be planning an event for next week. There isn't even such a thing as next week.

I was jazzed about the new Apple Silicon MacBooks before; now that Apple has busted out “One more thing...” — literally the strongest rhetorical weapon in its marketing arsenal — I'm all geeked out https://www.theverge.com/...

If there ever was a barometer for the state of affairs in the PC CPU world, this is it. In a one-week span AMD is going to release their Zen 3 processors, while Apple releases their first Arm-based Macs. It's a remarkable change from 5 years ago, when Intel ruled this space https…

It sounds unlikely, but I wish there would be a new Apple TV at the Apple Event next week, prior to the introduction of the first Apple Silicon Mac(s). Just like the HomePod mini set the stage for new iPhones. Again, rumors have mostly pointed towards 2021, but I can wish!
  • @tomwarren Tom Warren on x
Apple has a “one more thing” event on November 10th, the same day as next-gen Xbox launches. We'll likely see the first ARM-based Mac https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...

With Nov. 10 Apple Mac (no doubt) launch, I expect Apple will start dispelling the huge clouds of performance uncertainty for its own Arm chips ("Apple silicon"). Faster chips = faster transition off Intel. Solid set of software companies already on board. https://www.cnet.com/..…
