Apple debuts iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, with 5.8" and 6.5" screens, no 3D Touch, better battery life, triple camera system with zoom and wide angle, in 4 colors

As usual, Apple's latest batch of iPhones aren't exactly surprising, thanks to plenty of detailed leaks throughout the year.

Updated prediction: iPhone 11, iPhone Pro, iPhone Pro Max. https://twitter.com/...

The new iPhone 11 Pro Max IS SO GIGANTIC. Look at the little SE—so light and nimble. Bring back small iPhones! Right @itsnicolenguyen ? https://twitter.com/...

A13 Bionic. 8.5 billion transistors. What does this mean for most people? Nothing. Nothing at all. What does it mean in the chip world? Apple dunking on other silicon teams while their previous dunk was still traveling through the net.

I think most of the applause is from the Apple employees and not from the mainstream tech press but otherwise yes, Apple keynotes have become a self-parody. https://twitter.com/...

Deep Fusion shoots 9 images, it pre shoots 4 long and 4 short exposure images into a buffer. Then when you press the shutter button it takes a longer exposure. Then the neural engine and ISP combine these on a pixel by pixel basis into your image. A machine learning camera. pic.t…

The multi-shot video capability of the iPhone Pro is arguably waaaay more impressive than the photos. Regardless, the camera bump with three lenses looks mega. Very Bolex. https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...

Interesting / odd that Apple didn't mention ARKit once today...

@siracusa @marcoarment iPhone 11 Pro is 6.63 oz, which means the X-style phone has gotten heavier yet again (XS was heavier than the X). 11 Pro is slightly larger than the XS too.
  • @profjeffjarviss @profjeffjarviss on x
Much more sensible option: we should evolve to have larger hands, to benefit from big screen functionality. https://twitter.com/...

Fleshed out some more impressions of the iPhone 11 Pro. I am unreasonably into the new green color and can't wait to try the cameras in more difficult lighting conditions. It's nice! Is it “Pro” though? IDK. https://www.theverge.com/...

The matte finish is really neat. IT almost looks like a case! Wonder how durable it is and how deep the “matte” actually goes. https://twitter.com/...

Basically the entire iPhone demo area here is a demo of its camera capabilities.

For all the deeply technical new features on the Apple products just announced, which I'm sure will be awesome once translated into Steve Jobsian English, my two favorite things were: (1) always-on screen on the Apple Watch and (2) 4 more hours of battery life on the iPhone Pro.

The iPhone 11 Pro colors are compelling. The devices feel and look higher end compared to iPhone 11.
  • @reedalbergotti Reed Albergotti on x
The iPhone Pro pricing, starting at $1k, is about the same as last year's flagship lineup. So Apple isn't cranking up the prices this year.

Apple talking up “computational photography” on the iPhone 11 Pro, with this image stitched together from 9 different shots. This is an area where Google has been way ahead with its Pixel phone's. #AppleEvent pic.twitter.com/k6flDmJFuV

Apple is really going hard with these iPhone cameras. One “problem”: A growing number of people are perfectly content and happy with their current iPhone camera.

Keep in mind when thinking about the buyers for this years iPhones. Most customers buying one of them will be coming from an iPhone 7 or 8. Always looks like a much bigger upgrade when you keep that in perspective.
  • @michaelsayman Michael Sayman on x
Do you think iPhone XS users might be misled to ‘upgrade’ to the iPhone 11 (non-pro version) only to find downgraded features such as an LCD screen and thicker bezels? I wonder how many features of the iPhone 11 are actually a downgrade from the iPhone XS. 🤔

And, really, not all *that* aggressive—just aggressive by #Apple standards. Maybe the tech industry is finally realizing that “normal folks” can't/don't want to spend a bazillion dollars on gadgets. But...well done, @Apple; it's appreciated!!! https://twitter.com/...
  • @bryanbma Bryan Ma on x
Agreed. My biggest takeaway from #AppleEvent was the pricing, incl not just iPhone 11 and Apple Watch Series 3, but also TV+ in particular. Did Apple just pull a Xiaomi on the streaming industry? https://www.bloomberg.com/...
  • @markgurman Mark Gurman on x
Nothing shown today really qualifies as meeting high “innovation only” expectations: Apple delivered the smallest Watch update ever, an iPad with a slightly bigger screen and nothing more, and iPhones with cameras equal to or less than many other devices. Apple needs a big 2020. …
  • @rjonesy Ryan Jones on x
Rumor mill really botched it this year: 1. Apple Watch always-on OLED 2. No Apple Watch sleep tracking 3. No iPhone → AirPods charging 4. iPhone 4-5+ hours battery life 5. No Apple Tag 6. Midnight green

Apple's Night Mode looks solid. Image fusion and adaptive bracketing — shorter and longer exposures — melded together to reduce motion and blur make for better low light images. https://tcrn.ch/2UJ0Sei #AppleEvent pic.twitter.com/0CeU4ExYGg

iPhone 11 picks up a new “U1” chip which uses Ultra Wideband technology for better spatial awareness and location tracking. This was presumably part of a Tile-like ecosystem they haven't announced yet. https://twitter.com/...
  • @tomemrich @tomemrich on x
VERY INTERESTING: Apple-designed U1 chip uses Ultra Wideband technology, the first ever in a smartphone, for SPATIAL AWARENESS. With iOS 13.1 makes AirDrop even better with directionally aware suggestions. https://www.apple.com/... #appleevent https://twitter.com/...
