Dell rebrands its PCs as Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max, each with Base, Plus, and Premium tiers, killing names like XPS, Inspiron, Latitude, and Precision

someone came to me with “I heard it is discontinued, can you help me choosing a new laptop?”  —  what actually happened: they saw in the news that Windows XP was being discontinued and thought their Dell *XP*S running Windows 7 was thereby unsupported … X: Mark Gurman / @markgurman : Dell is rolling out an innovative new rebrand for its PCs, separating them into three tiers: Dell, Dell Pro and Dell Pro Max. https://www.bloomberg.com/... Vadim Yuryev / @vadimyuryev : Dell just rebranded all of their laptop lines to this: Dell, Dell Pro and Dell Pro Max. Sounds familiar but I just can't put my finger on it.. 🤔 Ben Bajarin / @benbajarin : Long time coming but @AMD is finally being offered by @Dell in their commercial portfolio. Big endorsement for AMD in commercial PCs/AI PCs. [image] Dustin Curtis / @dcurtis : Dell getting rid of the Inspiron, XPS, and Latitude product names is great, because they were terrible. But why did they replace them with the exact same names Apple uses? It's bizarre. So many people must have been involved with this change—and none of them had the power, [image] Steve Moser / @stevemoser : Everyone is copying Apple's (base), Pro, Pro Max pricing tiers. Even AMD has the Ryzen AI Max chip now. [image] Patrick Moorhead / @patrickmoorhead : Biggest $AMD announcement of the day is $DELL going big with @AMD in commercial notebooks. Dell has never historically been able to sell tonnage of any non-Intel commercial PCs and AMD wasn't willing to invest in enterprise PC GTM, but everything I've seen from in-depth [image] Alvin / @sondesix : Dell completely rebranded all of its PCs, simplified with a new naming scheme. They are: • Dell • Dell Pro • Dell Pro Max That means... 🚫 No more XPS 🚫 No more Inspiron 🚫 No more Vostro 🚫 No more Latitude 🚫 No more Precision 🚫 No more Optiplex This is just sad. 💔 [image] Olivier Blanchard / @oablanchard : Big announcement at #CES2025 🚨 @Dell is adding @AMD processors to its commercial AI PC lineup. More on this later (Dell's own embargo doesn't actually lift for another few hours), but this is both a significant shift for Dell and potential additional uplift for AMD's momentum. [image] &DAGGER Lucia Scarlet / @luciascarlet : what 😭 Josh Walrath / @joshdwalrath : Remember when Dell was a 100% Intel shop? EPYC was really the first honestly successful product that Dell featured. Now we are seeing more consumer level products from that group. Good for AMD, good for the industry. Ryan Shrout / @ryanshrout : 🤝 Major news from #CES2025: @AMD and @Dell announce their first commercial collaboration on AI-enabled PCs! - Dell's new Pro portfolio will feature AMD Ryzen AI PRO processors - Built to handle both current workflows and future AI demands - Integrates CPU, GPU & NPU [image] @delltech : Announcing our new streamlined product portfolio! 💻 🌐 We're making it easier and faster to find the right PCs, accessories and services with a new unified naming structure. Learn more about the updates here: https://www.dell.com/... [video] Christina Warren / @film_girl : This is the dumbest naming strategy I've ever seen in my life. Way to take the worst things from Apple and somehow make them even more confusing. This is not an improvement, Dell! [image] Vadim Yuryev / @vadimyuryev : 2025 is apparently the year of “MAX” branding. Dell Pro Max AMD Ryzen MAX Where the heck is Intel Lunar Lake Max and Snapdragon X Max?! Shut up and take my money. Jacob Silverman / @silvermanjacob : dude you're getting a dell pro max* (final branding subject to focus group approval) https://www.bloomberg.com/... Carolina Milanesi / @caro_milanesi : This is a pretty big deal for @AMD as it validates its presence in the commercial market even further. For @Dell it is all about offering choice to customers adding to what it already has with @intel and @Qualcomm &DAGGER Lucia Scarlet / @luciascarlet : @RandomTypek at least Apple don't name their laptops “Apple Pro Max Premium” Tom Warren / @tomwarren : Dell is killing its XPS brand. The PC manufacturer's new laptops, desktops, and monitors will have a simplified naming scheme with labels like “Pro” and “Max” instead https://www.theverge.com/... Ray Wong / @raywongy : Remember when Michael Dell said Apple should “shut the company down and give the money back to shareholders” ? Anthony / @thegalox_ : New Dell naming | Explained • XPS → Dell Premium • Precision → Dell Pro Max, Pro Max Plus & Pro Max Premium • Latitude → Dell Pro, Pro Plus & Pro Premium • Inspiron Plus → Dell Plus • Inspiron → Dell [image] Luke Miani / @lukemiani : I'm sorry but Dell Pro Max is hilarious Kontra / @counternotions : In other Wintel news today, Techmeme: “Dell is rebranding its PC lines as Dell, Dell Pro, and Dell Pro Max, each with Base, Plus, and Premium tiers, killing names like XPS, Inspiron, and Latitude...” (Where's the Ultra?!) Forums: r/gadgets : The end of an era: Dell will no longer make XPS computers r/hardware : The end of an era: Dell will no longer make XPS computers BeauHD / Slashdot : Dell Will No Longer Make XPS Computers
