Intel returns to a quarterly profit. Q3 usually 2nd strongest quarter, and with most expectations of large scale PC/laptop refreshes due to Win10 winding down... Q4 likely to be further ahead. Only issue is that Intel is reporting they could be supply constrained.

Intel reports Q3 revenue up 3% YoY to $13.7B, vs. $13.2B est., and net income of $4.1B, vs. a net loss of $16.6B in Q3 2024; INTC jumps 7%+

Intel reported better-than-expected revenue on Thursday, signaling that demand for its core x86 processors for PCs has recovered.  The stock jumped 6% in extended trading.

Crazy to think that basically one out of every four employees at Intel were let go over the past year. I think we knew a few! Some serious shifts in the industry, and Intel did not capitalize on their once dominant engineering/manufacturing position.

Remember when Dell was a 100% Intel shop? EPYC was really the first honestly successful product that Dell featured. Now we are seeing more consumer level products from that group. Good for AMD, good for the industry.

It has been 20 years since AMD released their first x86-64 processor to the market. It seems about the right time to extend it further.

This really should have happened ages ago. Arm has been iterating their base architecture for their partners at a tremendous rate over the past 14 years. While Intel and AMD have been innovating designs, we have not seen the base ISA expanded as compared.

Quick thoughts on NVIDIA antitrust... the company is in the position they are in due to some serious groundwork on the software side that they started 20+ years ago. They have enhanced that with years of class leading performance and efficiency on the hardware side.

$4.9B is a few dollars to buy ZT. Remember when AMD bought up SeaMicro back in the day? The only thing that really survived was Freedom Fabric.

Some 15 years ago I thought next gen consoles would all move to Arm to allow a common software development stack that could scale from handheld to full blown console. That obviously didn't come to pass, but neat to see Arm moving into new areas soon.

Finally got a chance to sit down a read a few Intel 10 series processor reviews. 2 things really stick out. Power draw on the 10900K is seriously in the FX-9590 range. The R5 3600X is still a super buy compared to the 10600K. Better perf, power, and $60 less (usually).
