Peter Kafka / @pkafka : Apple showed off the goggle demo last June, and I thought the idea was that would give them and developers time to get a blow-your-socks-off app or two ready.  But here they're basically saying you can use the goggles to use the same apps that are on your phone or Mac. https://www.apple.com/... Katie Notopoulos / @katienotopoulos : In 5 years, I will write about how I am downgrading to an old Quest 3 as my main VR headset as a way to slow down, be more mindful and present, spend less time on my headset Benedict Evans / @benedictevans : I think it's entirely possible that we won't get past the ‘wearing thing on your face’ objection to xR in general and the Vision Pro in particular, for all sorts of reasons.  But we all do lots of things every day that ‘no-one would ever do’ - it's really hard to know this stuff in advance.  We do listen to music in the street with earphones, and more than half of new relationships in the US start in apps.  Be careful being sure about such things. Mastodon: @johnvoorhees@mastodon.macstories.net : The ZEISS Optical lens inserts cost less than I expected.  Readers are $99 and prescription lenses are $149.  By comparison, my XREAL Air prescription inserts were $200.  —  More on @macstories: https://www.macstories.net/... Steve Troughton-Smith / @stroughtonsmith … : Initial coverage was definitely fueled by the WWDC hype, but I will say that the Vision Pro is still very much a VR headset in form factor.  It's kinda heavy; you need a perfect fit, in the sweet spot, or you won't have a good experience.  You may have borders at the edge of your field of view (especially if you're gonna add Zeiss optics). … BenRiceM / @BenRiceM@mastodon.social : I find it incredibly hard to get excited about a $3500 computer that I can't use for work without pairing it to a Mac anyway.  —  And given that Vision Pro doesn't support any dual hand controllers, it's useless for VR games as they currently exist.  —  Oh and the *external* battery doesn't last long enough to watch a whole movie … Tim Chaten / @tchaten@mastodon.world : New spatial games, including Game Room, What the Golf?, and Super Fruit Ninja, take advantage of the powerful capabilities of Apple Vision Pro to transform the space around players, offering unique and engaging gameplay experiences.  —  Fruit Ninja in VR is amazing can't wait to see what this is like!! Thomas / @thomasfuchs@hachyderm.io : Will the Vision Pro be the new Touchbar (kind of awful and will be silently discarded) or the new Apple Watch (doing ok, but not amazing)?  —  We'll know in a few years. Brian Gesiak / @modocache@types.pl : I'm definitely curious about the Apple Vision Pro, but probably won't purchase one.  Which is wild, because I'm definitely purchasing a ton of Apple hardware recently, purely as a method of relieving stress ("retail therapy").  So I should be a sucker for this, but my problems with it are: … Steve Troughton-Smith / @stroughtonsmith … : A little worrying that Apple doesn't have a launch event for Vision Pro, because it sounds like they have no progress on their first party app selection to show off.  Worryingly, based on the most recent beta, that suggests a bunch of first party apps are going to ship in iPad compatibility mode, not natively. … Steve Troughton-Smith / @stroughtonsmith … : It's not mentioned officially yet, but I believe there are two alternate head strap configurations for Apple Vision Pro, as per Patently Apple: a developer-focused USB-C strap (with USB host support), and a strap without earphones for the AirPods-inclined  —  [images] X: Linas Beliūnas / @linasbeliunas : Apple Vision Pro in a nutshell: Apple Pay Later will explode in 2024.
