In the coming weeks, we plan to start testing ads in ChatGPT free and Go tiers... What matters most: - Responses in ChatGPT will not be influenced by ads.  - Ads are always separate and clearly labeled.  - Your conversations are private from advertisers.  - Plus, Pro, Business, a…

We are starting to test ads in ChatGPT free and Go (new $8/month option) tiers.  Here are our principles.  Most importantly, we will not accept money to influence the answer ChatGPT gives you, and we keep your conversations private from advertisers.  It is clear to us that a lot …

I'm impressed that OpenAI is being this upfront about the ads They're eating ~35% of the available screen with ad space, it took Google decades to get to that level of ad saturation [image]

Open AI is rolling out ads because they have 800 million users who don't pay anything. The vast majority of those unpaid users are in third world countries like India. So that data center that is being built in your small town and consuming all the electricity and water is so

It's really difficult to get people to pay for your service / product.  OpenAI going the advertising route because to quote SamAltman people “don't want to pay” to use ChatGPT.  Apple has ~1.5B users who are willing to pay to be part of the Apple ecosystem (which will include int…

I think OpenAI has absolutely no idea the negative backlash shoving ads into ChatGPT is going to cause. It may make them to lose more market share than anything yet. They don't seem to understand how unpopular it is.

Introducing ads means OpenAI will be held to a higher standard when it comes to things like privacy, brand safety, misinfo, etc. Ads sometimes seem like a pesky thing for consumers but they can force platforms to address issues they otherwise wouldn't

When I spoke at Google's first advertiser's conference I sat with the Kraft food execs. They told me they spend $34 to acquire a 16 year old as a customer. Super Bowl ads are expensive. Lifetime value of such a customer is thousands of dollars. OpenAI wants a cut!

I am extremely bearish on this ads product because A) I'm not sure how great this data is for actual targeting and B) we have no idea what the CPM/CPA pricing will be.  Even if this becomes a good business line, OpenAI's services cost too much for it to matter! [embedded post]
