Kalshi

55 articles decelerating

46 articles in 2026 Q2 marked Kalshi’s shift from a prediction-market challenger into a test case for trading, gambling and market-integrity rules.

Who they are

Kalshi is a CFTC-regulated prediction-markets company whose contracts place it at the intersection of wagering, financial-market design and public-interest regulation. Coverage commonly links it to rival Polymarket, regulator CFTC, CEO Tarek Mansour and Coinbase, which joined Kalshi to introduce perpetual crypto futures for US investors through regulated exchanges.

The recent arc

Coverage rose sharply from late 2025 and peaked in 2026 Q2 as Kalshi’s contract design and trading controls came under scrutiny. In February and March, Kalshi said it had suspended an editor for MrBeast and a former California GOP gubernatorial candidate for insider trading; Mansour later said the company would void certain bets connected to Iran’s Ali Khamenei. Senators Adam Schiff and John Curtis then introduced bipartisan legislation aimed at sports betting on CFTC-regulated prediction markets, including Kalshi and Polymarket.

In May, the story broadened from event markets to financial products when Kalshi announced plans for CFTC-regulated perpetual futures and launched perpetual crypto futures with Coinbase. By August, regulatory and legal pressure intensified: New York sued to shut down Kalshi, though the CFTC sought emergency relief against the state’s enforcement; a Washington judge ordered the company to stop offering most prediction contracts in that state; and reports said the CFTC was probing “mention markets” after Kalshi removed sports-related word-choice bets. Kalshi also referred 32 possible insider traders to the CFTC in the three months through June.

The tension

The coverage centers on whether federally regulated prediction markets are financial venues with a legitimate path to broader products, or gambling-like services that states and lawmakers can restrict. Kalshi and Polymarket are the recurring comparators in that dispute, while the CFTC’s proposed authority to bar contracts deemed against the public interest or vulnerable to manipulation highlights the conflict between product expansion and the need to prevent insider trading, deceptive marketing and problematic betting categories.

Why it matters

If Kalshi can sustain its regulated-product expansion while navigating state challenges, it could help define how prediction markets connect to mainstream trading platforms such as Coinbase. But the Washington order, New York litigation, congressional sports-betting proposal and CFTC probes show that the category’s legal perimeter remains unsettled; the resolution will shape not only which contracts Kalshi can offer, but also the standards likely applied to Polymarket and other entrants.

Kalshi has appeared in 55 articles since 2021-02. Coverage peaked in 2026Q2 with 46 articles. Frequently mentioned alongside Polymarket, CFTC, Tarek Mansour, Coinbase.
