Team CODA created a profoundly beautiful movie, a story of hope and heart that celebrates our differences. Congratulations to the producers, @SianHeder, @TroyKotsur, @MarleeMatlin, @EmiliaJonesy, @DanielNDurant, @EugenioDerbez, and all involved in these historic wins! #CODAfilm h…

It's worth noting that Apple did not produce CODA. Apple acquired the worldwide rights to the film for a reported $25 million after it premiered at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival. An impressive win, but not really a true Apple Original.

“Apple made history by nabbing Hollywood's most coveted honor... ‘CODA,’ which has a predominantly Deaf cast, marks the first time a streaming service has won the best picture Oscar.” https://variety.com/...

“Coda” is a wonderful movie and deserving of the Oscar. But it is also historic as the first streaming winner (on Apple TV+)

Having an ASL interpreter only for the speeches related to CODA as if deaf people who watch the Oscars will ONLY be interested in those speeches is 🥴

Apple acquired the rights to “CODA” for $25 million after a bidding war following its premiere at Sundance last year https://variety.com/...

Apple CEO Tim Cook has acknowledged that the company prioritizes prestige over profits: “We don't make purely financial decisions about the content [on Apple TV+],” he said on 1/27 earnings call. “We try to find great content that has a reason for being.” https://variety.com/...

Director Sian Heder shares how she hopes #CODA will impact the deaf community: “Marlee Matlin won an Oscar 35 years ago and she's been alone in this industry... It's time for that to change... I hope that this is not a movie, it's a movement.” https://twitter.com/...

‘CODA’ wins best picture Oscar, making Apple TV+ the first streaming service to win film's highest honor.

Speaking of “CODA”: The movie cost less than $10 million to produce. Apple paid $25 million for the film out of Sundance. And one veteran awards consultant estimates Apple is spending more than $10 million on its awards campaign. https://www.wsj.com/...

Tech money is fueling an arms race at the Oscars. A short film that cost $5,000 to make might get a $40,000 promotional push ahead of the Academy Awards. https://www.wsj.com/... via @WSJ

So CODA wins Best Picture and Apple TV makes history being the first streamer winning the category. #Oscars https://twitter.com/...

So happy for Coda. Maybe next year the academy will provide the interpretation for the whole broadcast rather than only during Coda's wins.

@davemark There's also a contigent of voters who reject streaming services as they see it as destroying cinema, etc etc. So providing disc format also helps removes some of the stigma.

CODA's wins tonight cannot be overstated representationally. It is ENORMOUS for the disabled community, and again, as a CODA, I am beaming. It also should not be a footnote that Apple bankrolled CODA. Accessibility is not merely lip service or the “bloody ROI” to them.

While the Will Smith/Chris Rock “Fight Club Moment” will steal the headlines from last night's eventful Academy Awards, Apple made history being the first streamer to win an Academy Award for Best Picture with the groundbreaking film CODA. Apple winning is a game changer moment

Apple is estimated to have spent more than $10 million on the Oscars campaign for “CODA” — more than the movie's sub-$10 million production budget. https://variety.com/... via @Variety

“CODA,” a coming-of-age film about the only hearing member in a family of deaf adults, wins best picture at the Oscars. The award is also a big victory for Apple TV+, which becomes the first streaming service to win best picture. https://apnews.com/...
