Sources: Apple to launch redesigned iMacs this year with a Pro Display XDR-like design, and is working on two new Mac Pros, one of which may use Intel CPUs

Apple Inc. is planning the first redesign of its iMac all-in-one desktop computer since 2012, part of a shift away from Intel Corp. processors …

New story: For new high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, Apple indeed plans return of MagSafe, the end of the Touch Bar (finally), brighter screens, minor design changes, next-gen M-series chips and more. Launch around mid-2021. https://www.bloomberg.com/...

reasons I left Apple ecosystem start to look like Michael Corleone's TODOs: ☠️unpleasant, faulty keyboards ☠️TouchBar, lack of escape key ☠️16GB RAM limitation in notebooks 🔳lack of HDMI, USB-A, SD-card ports ☠️subpar, previous generation microprocessors https://twitter.com/...

My take on the “Dark Era” Macs 2013-2019 1. Trash Can Mac Pro = Worst desktop Mac ever - design over function. 2. 2016-2019 MacBook Pro = Worst Mac laptop ever - design over function. This was the work of an unchecked Jony Ive. I think Apple finally had enough = Jony leaving.

However THIS is absolutely true. Absolutely. 100%. ACCURATE. Saw it real-time, live, while it happened. BEYOND ME how no one at Apple had foreseen it, or seemed motivated to fix it. All at the same time when many “Switchers” were looking to re-buy. #DISASTER <8% market share http…

Apple is bringing back its MagSafe charger and reportedly ditching the terrible Touch Bar for its 2021 MacBook Pros. That's good news for Mac users https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...
  • @swyx Shawn Swyx Wang on x
Really good news for those patient enough to wait for the 2021 M1 MacBook Pros: - no more Touchbar! - Magsafe is back! - more IO ports! (less dongles needed) almost makes up for 5 years of them gaslighting us that these changes were things anyone wants https://9to5mac.com/...
  • @stephennellis Stephen Nellis on x
Glory hallelujah. MagSafe was one of the only times I was 100% OK with paying extra for a proprietary design. It only takes one time saving your $1,000+ machine from going flying for you to not care that Apple charges $80 for a power cord. https://twitter.com/...
  • @mkbhd Marques Brownlee on x
@UrAvgConsumer From my replies: 75% absolutely hate everything about the touchbar 20% saw nothing wrong with it, but never really used it, so whatever 5% used it every day, played emulators on it and can't live without it and are pissed
  • @classicii_mrmac Mr. Macintosh on x
If the current rumors are true, this could mark a huge shift. I don't think the damage that the 2013 Mac Pro & 2016 MacBook Pro is fully realized. $5000 desktop with that's not expandable? = Move to PC $2500 Laptop with horrible reliability & bad keyboard design = Move to PC
  • @ow @ow on x
If this is true, I'll 100% buy a Mac for the first time in...5 years again, but it's going to be hilarious when people realize the magsafe is going to be an upsell, not in the box https://twitter.com/...
  • @rsgnl Joe Rossignol on x
I wonder if Jony Ive leaving Apple had any influence on these rumors of Touch Bar being removed + return of more ports + return of classic MagSafe? I know Apple products have lengthy development timeframes, though, so it's hard to say. Jony left Apple in back half of 2019.

@ChowDownDetroit Apple giving people what they want...what is this?

c'mon I just need my 2015 machine to last 1 more year and I can avoid the touch bar era entirely!! https://twitter.com/...
  • @rsgnl Joe Rossignol on x
I feel like adding/emphasizing that Jony was great as a whole and hugely important to Apple. And he obviously wasn't the singular designer at Apple. I'm just glad that maybe Apple is moving away from worsening its products in the name of “thinner and lighter.”
  • @nemshilov Nikolay Nemshilov on x
Classic apple, take good stuff away for 5 years and then reintroduce it is an all new amazing idea https://twitter.com/...

I am so hyped for this rumored 14" MacBook Pro. With every rumor, I just want it more and more. I don't think I've been this impatient about an Apple product in a really long time. I think the last product that I screamed “WANT” for was the iPhone X?
  • @rsgnl Joe Rossignol on x
I'm a huge fan of 2020s Apple so far, although half of it is still based on rumors. They fixed the butterfly keyboard (okay that was late 2019), the M1 chip is amazing, rumors about a redesigned iMac + Touch Bar removal, and finally a new Thunderbolt Display? 🥳 🍾
  • @tapbot_paul Paul Haddad on x
Next on magic fairy land. Apple starts shipping machines with upgradable components and/or reasonably priced upgrades. 3 year standard warranties on Macs, sure why not.
  • @lukemiani Luke Miani on x
If Apple does bring back MagSafe on the MacBook Pro I expect it would be similar to Surface products, you can charge them with the surface connect port or USB-C ports. I don't think USB-C charging is going away
