Stephen King is literally offering FREE PUBLICITY for Twitter Blue (implicit here: “donating” his check is a cause he supports and *will vocally endorse*). And the replies are universally “hurrrrrr you're rich THIS ISN'T A CHARITY MISTER MURDER MILLIONS!!!111!!” https://twitter.com/...

In a campaign called #BlockTheBlue, some Twitter users, including popular ones like @dril, are asking people to block anyone who subscribes to Twitter Blue

After Elon Musk removed legacy verified users' checkmarks, Twitter's biggest users are blocking everyone who pays.

Some critics of Twitter Blue, such as @dril, Kara Swisher, and Twitch streamer Hasan Piker, say they have been given unwanted Blue checkmarks

If you can't beat 'em verify 'em. … The latest speed bump in the rollout of Twitter's revamped verification policy under new owner Elon Musk is here: Spite checkmarks.

Elon didn't actually get rid of verified. He got rid of the actual UI element. The checkmark. Amazing. https://twitter.com/...

Twitter begins removing blue checkmarks from legacy verified accounts, fulfilling one of Elon Musk's long-stated plans; Musk has called the system “corrupt”

Elon already took away the blue check from some publications like the The New York Times … Caroline Giegerich : The Twitter check shakedown has begun.  Twitter has officially begun...

I will verify your Twitter profile if you send me $20 on Cash app and have a 15 second zoom in which I make you answer one inane and utterly unpredictable question with your face fully visible. For this, I will send you an individually numbered postcard. In the mail.

The change is apparent on Twitter accounts for several Verge writers and other journalists like LA Times reporter Matt Pearce …

My view: Google has avoided doing this to date because it fears antitrust and regulatory scrutiny. By serving users more answers natively instead of asking them to click into a website, Google will create huge friction for publishers. https://twitter.com/...

at one point, printing presses were probably looked at with similar fear. If someone can print anything, how can we know what's true? well, by not just believing everything we read, and developing evidentiary standards. the bar for what's “real” will need to be raised again. https://twitter.com/...

@dcseifert the target market is likely zoomers in SE Asia and mayyyyybe Europe. The idea investors bought into them taking on the iPhone is lol. Carl is really good at crafting narrative, but this phone has literally no chance in the world's iPhone-dominant markets.

Carl Pei teases Nothing's Phone (1), a smartphone running on Nothing OS, an Android skin, and powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon, debuting this summer

@dcseifert Just what US carriers want, another mediocre $600-900 phone that no one will buy! Apple, Samsung, and Google have extracted 100% of the oxygen in this space and collectively spend more on marketing every month than Nothing is worth to keep that edge. Good luck with that.

I don't buy that Nothing told its investors its goal is to meaningfully disrupt the iPhone. The goal, in my view, is to unseat OnePlus in India and try to fill the Huawei gap in Europe. And I see zero opportunity for this phone in North America whatsoever. Pointless.

This is the story I would tell if I, as a Marketer, wanted to maximize my SEO visibility and encourage tribalistic engagement on social networks by coopting the world's most famous brand and associating it with my own. you know, just hypothetically https://www.theverge.com/...

The future of Android tablets is light duty, low cost convertibles and detachables. Something that gets you a keyboard and a desktop UI, but with very few frills. Maybe it's a smart display when you're not using it. Anything more than that is folly.

Apple announces an updated iPad Air with M1, 5G, a 12MP ultra-wide front camera, and more, starting at $599 in 64GB or 256GB versions, available on March 18

Jon Porter / The Verge :

This isn't just chips, it's vertical integration and partnerships. Google or Qualcomm could make the fastest chip in the world and at this point, I think it would make literally no difference.

Jon Porter / The Verge :

Game, set, match Apple for creative professionals. It's over. There is truly no point to making an Android tablet that costs more than $500, if there ever was. Google and Qualcomm fumbled that football, repeatedly, and you'd have to be a fanboy to keep buying into that circus.

Jon Porter / The Verge :

With Apple introducing the M1 to iPad Air, it's only a matter of time before it trickles down to entry level models. And I see no future in which a $500 Android tablet renders 4K video as fast as a gaming laptop.
