Apple has suspended Parler from the App Store, saying Parler “has not taken adequate measures” to address threats to people's safety on its platform

The companies pulled support for the “free speech” social network, all but killing the service just as many conservatives are seeking alternatives to Facebook and Twitter.

Yesterday, Parler was one of the fastest-growing apps in the U.S. and was poised to capitalize on Trump supporters' growing anger at Silicon Valley. By today, both Apple and Google had cut Parler off from their app stores, dealing it a major blow. https://www.nytimes.com/...

Huge. Doomscrolling this am on Parler leads me to two conclusions: there were multiple threats of violence/ quite a few bomb emojis & many calls to head over to privately organized channels on telegram in preparation for this. https://twitter.com/...

Good, ok. But let's not forget that it took an armed mob breaking into the bedrock institution of democracy seeking to overthrow election results and, apparently, to murder elected officials for all these folks now taking action to take white supremacist terrorism seriously. http…

Apple has suspended Parler indefinitely. Your move @JeffBezos and @awscloud. Do not hesitate over first amendment concerns; CEO John Matze has an entire free market full of options, especially in Russia where he has family ties to the government. Let Putin's people host Parler. h…

In all the horror, two articles that have given me life, sentence-for-sentence, in the last 48 hours. (1) “This is very huge,” Amy Peikoff, Parler's policy chief, told Fox News. Without access to the App Store, she said, “we're toast.” https://www.nytimes.com/...

this is an infinitely bigger deal than apple or google. Those just mean you have to use the browser as opposed to the app. This means Parler is off the web altogether. Also, depending on their set up, moving off aws may require non trivial rearchitecting of their site. https://tw…

Some context as someone with 6 years of producing Apple news on @RelayFM. - Google banned them 1st - Apple has been aggressive historically in applying these rules. If anything, Parler was given unprecedented leniency. - Parler was lucky to not be banned after the data breach. ht…

Well, Parler might really be toast now. Amazon just pulled its support for the site, meaning Parler will go offline tomorrow night unless it can find another web-hosting provider before then. Parler is now fighting for its life. Our updated story: https://www.nytimes.com/...
