Last year we showed how Apple was contradicting its self-proclaimed values to stay on the good side of the Chinese Communist Party, including proactively censoring apps and putting user data in state-owned data centers. It's either that — or get out. https://www.nytimes.com/...

Analysis: Apple's corporate diplomacy in Beijing helped it evade crackdowns and kept its profits above China's tech giants but exposes it to supply chain shocks

The most profitable tech company operating in China is not a homegrown internet giant such as Alibaba or Tencent, but California-based Apple.

Brazil's Congress, Supreme Court, election officials and federal police have all been trying to get a response from Telegram for months. It turns out, all they had to do was ban it. Here's @andrespigariol and me on Brazil and Telegram's wild weekend: https://www.nytimes.com/...

Brazil's Supreme Court reverses its decision to ban Telegram, which it had ordered on Friday, after Telegram suddenly worked to comply with the court's orders

Brazil's Supreme Court blocked Telegram on Friday.  The messaging app then responded with measures to fight misinformation, and the court quickly lifted its ban.

Every iPhone user knows how one Android friend can ruin a group text. This is a smart @timkhiggins story on Apple's strategy to make that happen — which has led to teens on Android feeling ostracized: https://www.wsj.com/...

How the peer pressure to be a part of the blue bubble iMessage text groups keeps US teens locked into Apple's ecosystem

The iPhone maker cultivated iMessage as a must-have texting tool for teens.  Android users trigger a just-a-little-less-cool green bubble: 'Ew, that's gross.'

Apple agrees to settle a class-action lawsuit and will let developers directly contact customers, inform them about purchase options outside iOS, and more

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA Apple today announced a number of changes coming to the App Store that, pending court approval, will resolve a class-action suit from US developers.

All in all, Apple made this minor change, agreed to keep its commission rates flat for at least three years, and paid $100 million to make a potentially large legal headache go away. Seems like a great deal for the richest company in the world. https://www.nytimes.com/...
