Intel cancelled planned fab projects in Germany and Poland, and will consolidate its testing and assembly operations in Vietnam and Malaysia

Intel reported second-quarter results on Thursday that beat Wall Street expectations on revenue, as the company's new CEO Lip-Bu Tan announced significant cuts in chip factory construction.

    Crazy to think that basically one out of every four employees at Intel were let go over the past year. I think we knew a few! Some serious shifts in the industry, and Intel did not capitalize on their once dominant engineering/manufacturing position.

    Unless you think journalists are very good and quick with math, Intel really did some nice behind the scenes work to ensure that “more layoffs coming!” would be a headline the heavyweights ran with during a quarter in which they disappointed.

    Intel reports a GAAP net loss of $2.9B, down 81 percent from a year ago when it reported a loss of $1.6B. (Non-GAAP profit of $0.1B.) Revenue was basically flat at $12.9B. GAAP EPS a net loss of $0.67, or $0.10 non-GAAP. Panther Lake on track, 18A in prod. Outlook: $12.6B-$13.6B.
