Ok, Intels decision to skip Intel 20A caught me by surprise. Somehow I find it difficult to make a good twist out of it. On one hand, it shows confidence in Intel 18A, but it also means that Intel will go back to relying entirely on TSMC for Arrow Lake. [image]
@PAstynome LMFAO! The renaming shit was embarrassing anyway. 18A was meant to connote it was like a 1.8 micron part, similar to TSMC's 2nm process, but that's a lie. 18A is actually 5nm. See chart at end https://www.anandtech.com/...
@ryanshrout The cost of ARL-S is in question, yes. N3B is a relatively expensive node to use, and Intel cannot afford to substantially raise the prices of its entire lineup regarding its latest loss of trust among consumers.
@HPC_Guru Kinda disappointed that we can't have GAAFET node in production this year, but i can understand that. Given how horrible intel position in term of liquidity today and the maturity of 18A such move would make sense The really bad news is that i can't expect intel....
@anshelsag From my point of view, the use of Intel 20A would have shown the customer (especially with regard to the foundry business) that you can deliver reliably. In the end it could be a good news, I agree. Lunar Lake looks good on TSMC and so should Arrow Lake.
There will be a lot of discussion about this news from Intel that came out yesterday: the company is going to de-prioritize the 20A process node in favor of focusing development on 18A, due to seeing better progress on it than expected. That means 20A will not be productized at
