Microsoft unveils an updated Bing search engine and Edge browser powered by a next-gen custom OpenAI LLM, calling the duo an “AI-powered co-pilot for the web”

Microsoft has announced a new version of its search engine Bing, powered by an upgraded version of the same AI technology that underpins chatbot ChatGPT.

Not that I use Bing anyway, but I certainly will not be replacing my search engines (@Startpage and @Brave) with a chatbot. There are so many issues with this idea. Not least: Search engines should not be unreliably regurgitating other people's hard work to keep users on page.

PREDICTION: Google's $15B deal with Apple to be the default search on iPhone will be re-negotiated and be a bidding war between MSFT/Bing and Google. It will become at least $25B, if not more. If MSFT is willing to spend $10B on OpenAI, they'll spend even more here.
