To celebrate the launch of the Codex app, we doubled all rate limits for paid plans for 2 months! And added access for free/go.

The Codex app is available starting today on macOS, with Windows coming soon. For a limited time, Codex is available through ChatGPT Free and Go subscriptions—and we're doubling rate limits for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users—across the Codex app, CLI, IDE

Excited to announce the Codex App: run multiple projects and threads in one focused app! 🔥 The app natively packs a lot of features making it easier to maximise your productivity: > Worktree mode keeps changes isolated - parallel tasks without touching your checkout > [video]

Today, we're introducing the Codex app, our flagship Codex experience. Work on multiple things in parallel, extend Codex with skills, and automate repetitive tasks. The most exciting part for us has been using the app to build itself. This is the first of many new things coming […

the codex app is really good, try it out. i've been a die-hard terminal / emacs user for many years, but since using the codex app, going back to the terminal has felt like going back in time. feels like an agent-native interface for building.

We're excited to launch the Codex app, a command center for building with agents. It gives you a focused space to manage multiple agents at once, run work in parallel, and collaborate with agents over long-running tasks. https://openai.com/codex [video]

Codex is writing all my code these days, and I've fully switched to using the Codex app. The velocity of the Codex team is really impressive.

@OpenAI ... After quick testing, the app feels very solid, the ui is very nice and good amount of controls. It pulled my design doc from Linear, and understood its task. It made a good plan, and then implemented the changes correctly. It's seems very good with visual changes. [im…

A few notes on the new Codex macOS Electron app - I've had a few days of preview access. I had fun poking around in the SQLite database it uses for scheduled Automations! https://simonwillison.net/...

A start of an intense week? OpenAI launches an app for Codex 👀 The power of terminal tools without terminal
  • @parkerortolani Parker Ortolani on x
why can't this just be part of the Mac app? like how Claude is structured? they're beginning to have too many separate tools, talk about distractions

I am very excited about AI, but to go off-script for a minute: I built an app with Codex last week. It was very fun. Then I started asking it for ideas for new features and at least a couple of them were better than I was thinking of. I felt a little useless and it was sad.
  • @dimillian Thomas Ricouard on x
I've been testing the Codex official macOS app for the last couple of weeks. Yes, funny, I know! But I didn't know they were making their own until a week after I started and released Codex Monitor! It's OpenAI's take on the IDE of the future, and it's pretty good! 🧵for more [ima…

welcome codex app! my favorite feature is how insanely simple woktrees are i have one worktree = one pr = one thread such a pleasantly ergonomic app; clearly made by people who've used billions of codex tokens
  • @mitchellh Mitchell Hashimoto on x
The biggest issue with the Codex app is how easy it is to create a PR. The automatic “open a PR” feature of agentic programming in general (not just Codex) is creating an insane amount of burden on open source (see 3 slopfests closed today in Ghostty's repo). Please, stop this.
  • @aarondfrancis Aaron Francis on x
I got early access to the Codex app and have been using it for a little while, and it's really really clean. Very much enjoying it so far! Helps tame the proliferation of Ghostty tabs. And it has worktrees built in 👀 [image]

i got to use the codex app this past week and it's really good! easily 2x'd my codex usage. i think we underrate how much more accessible these tools get when you bring them into great interfaces. highly recommend.

I am Tibo and I have an incredible team. Codex would not exist without them and they cooked. Enjoy the new Codex app, access through your free/go ChatGPT plan and 2X rate limits on other plans. Can't wait to hear what you do with it. https://openai.com/codex/ [image]

I am sure we will figure out much better and more interesting ways to spend our time, and amazing new ways to be useful to each other, but I am feeling nostalgic for the present.
  • @openai @openai on x
With the Codex app you can: - Multitask effortlessly: Work with multiple agents in parallel and keep agent changes isolated with worktrees - Create & use skills: package your tools + conventions into reusable capabilities ⁃ Set up automations: delegate repetitive work to Codex wi…

Interesting that OpenAI deprioritized their ChatGPT Mac app, but also made a codex specific desktop app Meanwhile Claude just stuck cowork & code it in a tab
  • @gergelyorosz Gergely Orosz on x
Nothing shows what the #1 operating system for “modern” devs is than OpenAI launching Codex desktop, Mac-only (for now.) Windows really fumbled the dev market, years ago. Apple won it by avoiding the series of upsets Microsoft just could not help themselves (ads, MS account etc) …

Very happy to see a native Mac app for Codex - especially because it seems like it was built for parallel agents and lots of customization, plus a new collection of skills.  —  Excited to dig in.  Our hands-on by @johnvoorhees:  —  https://www.macstories.net/...  [image]
