Apple: We didn't put a 120Hz display in the iPhone because honestly the average person won't even notice that type of thing Also Apple: 10 minutes of bragging on their 10-bit HDR Dolby Vision live image processing 😅

One advantage of the new (old) design of the iPhone 12 - it should be able to stay upright (on its side, not vertically) while recording of the surface is flat and level. #appleevent https://twitter.com/...

This gets even more confusing. So, the 12 Pro does not have the 65mm telephoto (it keeps the standard 50mm) and it also doesn't have sensor-OIS and the larger sensor. It retains the old system. Apple refuses to break this out properly in columns likely to blur 12 Max advantages. …

Using LIDAR for auto-focus on the iPhone Pro is a stroke of genius. Glad people can use LIDAR for their AR stunts, but auto-focus in low-light conditions is fabulous.

Apple added a 2006 technology, #magsafe, to the iPhone with some crazy music & rapid cut shots, & is our here pretending it's innovative—& I'm here for it! It's like they're going back to Steve Jobs' greatest hits and remastering them... which feels like a great strategy TBH.
  • @mims Christopher Mims on x
Lidar on a phone feels like a feature in search of a use. Like Apple is just leveraging the scale of its phone supply chain to make these sensors cheaper and less power hungry so eventually it can put it on some AR smart glasses.

Seriously, Apple's new iPhone 12 is a literal remix of Steve Jobs' greatest iPhone: the iPhone 5, MagSafe, & variations on color (rose gold)!🤦‍♂ ️ That's where Apple is in 2020: their biggest innovations are things Jobs did over a decade ago. https://twitter.com/... https://twitt…

Might downgrade to the iPhone 12 Mini. I justified the iPhone 11 Pro to myself by arguing that it was the smallest phone, but now I don't have that defence, and paying £200 to get a phone that is larger than I'd like, just because it has a better camera, feels silly
