A $250M-plus Drift attack and SoFiUSD’s 14.7M-member rollout made Solana’s 2026 coverage a test of institutional adoption alongside application-layer risk.
Who they are
Solana is a blockchain platform appearing in coverage as infrastructure for crypto trading, stablecoins, tokenized assets, wallets and consumer-facing applications. It is repeatedly positioned alongside Ethereum and Polygon in product rollouts, while SOL and Solana-based services such as Phantom and Drift connect the network to its market and application ecosystem.
The recent arc
Coverage rose sharply in 2025Q1, driven in part by political and retail-crypto stories: President Trump named Solana among assets proposed for a US crypto reserve in March, following the January launch of Melania Trump’s Solana-based MELANIA token. That phase put Solana in a market and policy narrative alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP and Cardano rather than solely in a developer-platform comparison.
The 2026Q2 run shifted toward financial infrastructure and operational exposure. Superstate’s January plan to bring SEC-registered equities to Ethereum and Solana was followed by the April reports of an active attack on Solana-based DeFi platform Drift, with Arkham data indicating more than $250M moved to an interim wallet. May then brought MoonPay’s acquisition of Solana trading platform DFlow and SoFi’s launch of SoFiUSD on Ethereum and Solana in its app, extending the network’s role in stablecoin distribution.
The tension
The coverage circles a contest to turn blockchain throughput and user reach into trusted financial rails. Solana is paired most often with Ethereum, including in SoFiUSD and Superstate’s equity plans, and with Polygon in Meta’s USDC creator payouts; meanwhile, the Drift exploit and the malicious Ledger Live clone underscore that adoption through wallets and DeFi also concentrates security and custody risk.
Why it matters
If stablecoin, tokenized-equity and wallet integrations continue, Solana could become more deeply embedded in mainstream financial-product distribution rather than remaining chiefly a venue for crypto-native trading and token launches. Whether that trajectory holds will depend on whether applications and intermediaries can contain the security failures that the Drift episode brought into focus, and on how its competing integrations with Ethereum and Polygon translate into durable usage.
