$156M in Q2 event-contract revenue, up more than tenfold year over year, marked Robinhood's shift toward prediction markets as crypto weakened.

Who they are

Robinhood is a consumer investing platform whose coverage spans stock trading, crypto, IPO access and, more recently, real-world event contracts. It has appeared both as a focal point of the GameStop-era trading frenzy and as a public company led by CEO Vlad Tenev navigating market, regulatory and product-expansion pressures.

The recent arc

Recent coverage has concentrated in 2026Q1 and 2026Q2, moving from regulatory and crypto questions toward diversification of the trading platform. In February 2025, CNBC reported that the SEC had dropped its Robinhood Crypto investigation; by 2026, reporting focused on product economics, including Q1 revenue that missed estimates as crypto revenue fell, followed by Q2 revenue of $1.31B, above estimates, according to MarketWatch.

The tension

The central tension is whether Robinhood can turn high-engagement speculative products into a broader, durable financial-services business while reducing reliance on crypto and managing the operational demands of expansion. Its event-contract push puts it in direct competition with Kalshi and Polymarket, while the Crypto.com arrangement makes that rivalry more complicated by combining minority investments with distribution of Crypto.com's yes-or-no contracts. The company is also streamlining internally: Tenev said it was reducing full-time staff by about 10% in a flattening of the organization.

Why it matters

If event contracts continue to out-earn Robinhood's stock and crypto businesses, the platform could help move prediction markets from a specialist category into mainstream retail investing. The Oura underwriting role further suggests an effort to influence customers' access to new listings rather than merely execute trades after they begin. That trajectory remains uncertain: it depends on sustained customer demand, competitive positioning against dedicated prediction-market venues, and an ability to expand while preserving the trust and regulatory footing that have repeatedly shaped its coverage.

Robinhood has appeared in 211 articles since 2014-09. Coverage peaked in 2026Q2 with 10 articles. Frequently mentioned alongside SEC, GameStop, Vlad Tenev, IPO.
