A $30M Eagle Wireless raise in February 2026 capped a coverage shift toward IoT connectivity supply chains and enterprise-device security.

Who they are

IoT, or the connected-device sector, appears in coverage as a cross-industry technology layer spanning consumer smart-home products, industrial operations, cellular modules, cloud platforms, vehicles and device management. Stories repeatedly place it alongside major platform and chip companies including Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Intel, Samsung and Qualcomm, rather than treating it as a standalone vendor.

The recent arc

Recent coverage has concentrated on the infrastructure and security needed to operate connected fleets. February 2026 stories reported Cleveland-based Eagle Wireless raising a $30M Series B for cellular modules as the US seeks to reduce reliance on China; late-2025 coverage tracked Armis’s $435M financing and reports that ServiceNow was in talks to acquire the IoT security and management company. Axonius’s $180M purchase of healthcare-IoT specialist Cynerio similarly tied the sector to enterprise asset management.】【:

The tension

The central tension is that expanding connectivity creates both strategic infrastructure demand and an enlarged attack surface. Reporting on the Aisuru botnet’s use of hacked devices on US ISPs and the prosecution tied to the Rapper Bot contrasts with Armis, Cynerio and Microsoft’s earlier Azure Sphere effort to secure and manage devices. At the same time, Eagle Wireless brings a supply-chain dimension: the components connecting devices have become relevant to efforts to lessen China dependence.

Why it matters

If this trajectory holds, IoT’s significance will increasingly rest less on consumer-device novelty than on who controls secure connectivity, device visibility and industrial deployment. Consolidation around enterprise security platforms and investment in domestic-oriented module supply could make those capabilities more consequential, while botnet reporting shows that weak deployment practices remain a material constraint. The extent to which security tooling and interoperability can keep pace is unresolved.
