Figma

Filtered to Acquisitions & M&A ×
101 articles decelerating

Figma’s 2025 IPO priced at $33 and its shares closed 250% higher on debut, shifting coverage from the failed Adobe deal to AI-driven growth and competition.

Who they are

Figma is a UI design and prototyping company led by CEO Dylan Field, appearing in coverage as a central design-workflow platform whose products sit between software teams, AI model providers and larger design-tool rivals. Its role broadened after its NYSE IPO under ticker FIG, following the collapse of Adobe’s proposed acquisition.

The recent arc

Coverage peaked most recently in 2025Q3 as Figma filed for an IPO and then began trading: reporting described 46% year-over-year Q1 revenue growth in its filing, while CNBC reported shares closed at $115.50 after being sold at $33 in the IPO. That marked a clear transition from the 2022–23 Adobe takeover saga—Adobe and Figma terminated the $20B deal after UK and EU regulatory obstacles—to scrutiny of Figma as a public company.

Figma’s 2026 coverage has centered on the economics and strategic position of its AI features. It reported Q4 revenue of $303.8M, up 40% year over year and above estimates, alongside stronger Q1 guidance. At the same time, it partnered with Anthropic on Code to Canvas, which brings Claude Code output into Figma as editable designs, and joined more than 20 initial integrations for OpenAI’s Codex plugins.

The tension

The central tension is whether AI expands Figma’s design platform or turns AI providers and adjacent tools into substitutes. Anthropic is both a Code to Canvas partner and, according to later reporting, a company whose Claude Design launch and product behavior raised concerns among business partners; Figma’s stock fell after that launch. Google’s updated Stitch “vibe designing” tool was likewise tied to a sharp FIG decline, while Canva remains a relevant design-platform peer.

Why it matters

If AI-assisted creation becomes embedded in developer and enterprise workflows, Figma’s integrations with Anthropic and OpenAI could deepen its position as the editable design layer between generated code and finished products. But the same trajectory makes differentiation less certain: rapid advances from Google, Anthropic and other AI platforms may compress the value of standalone design workflows, leaving public-market expectations unusually responsive to both monetization evidence and competitive product launches.
