Report: Apple to announce 4 new iPhones, including $699 5.4" iPhone 12 Mini, MagSafe branded wireless chargers and iPhone case, and $99 HomePod mini on Oct. 13

Breaking! Probably the most comprehensive and accurate product information for the iPhone 12 conference so far, from Weibo @ kang https://twitter.com/...
  • @jon_prosser Jon Prosser on x
So, about AirTags. This one hurts my heart... I'm being told that Apple has pushed back the announcement and launch of AirTags to March of 2021.

Updated info from my sources about the October 13th iPhone event. 1. Digitimes was correct earlier in the year. 6.1 devices will come first. Mini & Pro Max in Nov. As for pricing, I don't personally have any updated info. Source is saying $649 starting price for Mini (64GB)

Apple will give you the launch date of iPad Air during the October 13th event.

@marcoarment @caseyliss @siracusa Sooo who is gonna join the XL club now that Apple is apparently going back to not having identical camera system in both sizes 😅 https://twitter.com/...

HomePod mini is actually a *very* important product 👀 Yeah, it's a smol speaker, BUT ☝️ it's actually a UWB (ultra wide-band) hub in disguise. HomePod mini will serve as a UWB hub in home, to interact with other UWB powered devices in your house (iPhones, Watch, AirPods, etc)
  • @jon_prosser Jon Prosser on x
I'm told the AirTags delay is due to the COVID situation in the Eastern market. AirTags are heavily dependent on pinging other iPhones to be accurate. They'll still be a successful product launch, but the question is: would they be more successful in March 2021? Probably... https…

was thinking of hi, speed a little more and as camera 🤓...frame rate? The idea of Dolby vision recording on iPhone 12 is exciting too 🤤

So, basically similar to an Apple Watch charge experience. Ditch the lightning port and instead have a spot on the phone that the charging pad is magnetically drawn to. iDig it  https://twitter.com/...
  • @pedrodias Pedro Dias on x
Well... Shit! Bigger phone it is 😅 “The key differentiator between the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max will be the sensor size, with the Max model packing a 47% larger sensor with 1.7μm pixels” https://9to5mac.com/...
  • @geerlingguy Jeff Geerling on x
If Apple comes out with an iPhone mini, I'm in. If it's 5.4", that's still larger than I'd like in my ideal world but it would be nice to have a phone I can actually use with one hand and fits in more pockets.

I'm a little confused by this. It kind of sounds like a new proprietary charging protocol to replace Qi but only available at first through a case? Maybe to enable data pass through to eventually phase out the charging port entirely? Why else would they abandon Qi? https://twitte…

Am I the only one who thinks MagSafe absolutely doesn't fit an iPhone? Like the *entire* idea of MagSafe was that it wouldn't fuck your MacBook into next Saturday when you inevitably trip on the charger cable at least once. You do that with an iPhone on a pad, no more iPhone
  • @leaksapplepro @leaksapplepro on x
This is the part of the iPhone event when we always hear, “and it has the most durable glass ever on a smartphone” even thought apple uses gorilla glass which is basically the same for all other devices. https://twitter.com/...
  • @richardlai Richard Lai on x
Some context about that massive iPhone 12 rumour on Weibo: that person sells iPhone accessories for a living, and he has had some reliable leaks, but even he added a line at the end of the post saying “this is all just gossip, don't take it seriously.” We shall see.
  • @gigastacey Stacey Higginbotham on x
I'm going with an Echo Dot+clock, an Echo Studio and the Echo Show 10. These will replace an original Echo Show and one original Echo. We're also buying two Nest Audio speakers and will keep one of the two Google Displays. There may need to be a HomePod after Tuesday.

What could really be that different about this new MagSafe iPhone connector? It sounds like all it'll do is make sure an iPhone auto aligns to these new pads?
  • @craigaryhart @craigaryhart on x
@appltrack This is totally wrong, according to Kang's Weibo, this is 7-element lens (It's 6-element lens on iPhone 11), not 7MP Facetime camera. https://twitter.com/...
  • @x131142117 Scav X on x
@appltrack It seems that your translation software did a really poor job. According to what @Kang posted on Weibo, 3.3 inch is not the height of HomePod mini but the size of its speaker.
  • @sl_ios Apple Event Updts on x
Fun fact: The HomePod mini will be shorter than the iPhone 4S 3.3 inches vs 4.5. I'm now even more worried about sound quality 😅 https://twitter.com/...
  • @rsgnl Joe Rossignol on x
One of the neater rumors here is 4x optical zoom on iPhone 12 Pro and 5x optical zoom on iPhone 12 Pro Max, although sad that we're returning to a situation where you get punished with fewer features for simply preferring a smaller display https://twitter.com/...

The return of MagSafe (at least the brand name) ... 2020 really does just spring it on ya.

@tldtoday Super interesting it's Dolby Vision, not just HDR10. That gotta be a lot of A14 work right there.

  • @_chuckyc Charlie Chapman on x
😯 $99 is way lower than I expected Though I wonder how much worse the sound quality will be at that price. Cause the only real benefit to the HomePod currently is the sound Quality. Siri isn't exactly a strong selling point 😅 https://twitter.com/...

  • @gernot @gernot on x
@joaopinheiro Pretty sure that it's the usual qi charging. They added a circle of magnets for centering and to make wall and car mounts possible. It's very likely since there have been pics of that magnet ring months ago, and reusing the MagSafe name also sounds like a move they'…
  • @wrichter00 William Richter on x
@MacRumors Sounds too low for Apple. $150 sounds more like it but I was expecting a $199 price. Unless they can pair it with the regular HomePod as a Dolby Atmos surround sound speaker, I'm not interested.

HomePod mini at $99 is intriguing... but AirPlay 2 needs to get significantly more reliable. It took a major step back with iOS 14 for me, and it's always been terrible with macOS. https://twitter.com/...

I would love a new MagSafe connector. https://twitter.com/...
  • @jpeguin Shihab on x
If this is true, it's very interesting to see the difference in optical zoom and sensor size in cameras between the Pro and Pro Max display sizes. Not a fan of being punished with less features for favouring a phone that can be used one-handed. https://twitter.com/...

I really hope that with Apple processors MacBooks start to get battery life that's actually remotely close to what they claim. My iPad Pro 100% has all-day battery life, even with lots of LTE usage. I don't think I've ever seen half of the 11 hours Apple says you can get, ever- h…

Apple plans to announce its 5G iPhones next week, but in the U.S., 5G is mostly still slow, inconsistent, and hard to find. That could upset customers when they start using the new models in the coming weeks. My preview of Apple's Tuesday event: https://www.bloomberg.com/...

Another COVID consequence I would love to see made permanent: fewer keynotes overloaded with news. Getting blasted with dozens of only semi-related announcements sucks. Splitting up Watch and iPhone events is easier on news consumers and professionals, and probably for Apple too.
