$8 a month seems like a fair price for the amount of amusement I'm getting out of watching Elon lose $44b.

Elon Musk says the blue checkmark system is “bullshit” and Twitter Blue will be $8/month with half the ads, priority in replies, mentions, and search, and more

Twitter's current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn't have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.

It's truly incredible to me that instead of doing these things from a position of strength Apple is effectively going to allow legislators to instead design what an open iPhone needs to look like. Reminds me of some old school BlackBerry-tier hubris. https://twitter.com/...

Wordle clones are starting to disappear from Apple's App Store, after reports surfaced about many capitalizing on the guessing game's popularity

It seems Apple has taken action  —  Has Apple taken action against apps that cloned the popular web game Wordle?

I always find it to be fascinating to see one of the primary objections to third party billing in apps is “I don't trust my information to anyone else!” So, like, how do you engage in online commerce with literally anyone else if only Apple can be trusted with your billing info?

Payments company Paddle announces an alternative in-app payments system for iOS, charging 5%-10% fees and launching December 7, following Epic v. Apple ruling

Totally removing the cost savings, the control you'd have over customer support via a third party payment system like Paddle is huge. It's weird supporting an iOS app and when the best solution is to just give someone a refund you have to refer them to Apple who can just say no.

For real it really shows you how much is at stake for Apple to maintain the status quo with the App Store that they'd just throw the Mac under the bus like this. For YEARS the Mac has been the computer people recommend to their Windows-using family BECAUSE it has no malware.

During the Epic trial, Craig Federighi says malware on macOS has reached an “unacceptable” level and the problem is “significantly larger” than iOS

Apple's head of software engineering, Craig Federighi, said malware on Macs have hit “unacceptable” levels.

Apple's strategy today of making the Mac out to be this malware-ridden war zone to protect the sanctity of the walled garden of iOS seems really odd to me. The Mac is fine. iOS with side loading and payment flexibility will also be fine. The only thing at risk is Apple's profits.

@tolik @stroughtonsmith Well, we were totally allowed to run our site they just made it very difficult which always really bothered me as I dedicated so much of my time and energy (arguably too much) evangelizing iOS gaming from the earliest days of the pre-jailbreak iPhone web games.

I'm glad Apple is finally getting into “timeless classics,” this editorial I wrote back in 2019 after joining GameClub on losing the App Store's digital games history is still just as important today ...but getting Sherlocked is a wild thing to experience. https://www.gamesindustry.biz/ ...

I'd love to see a company with infinite resources like Apple take a crack at preserving historically important iOS games that now only exist in videos I shot or articles I wrote about them as one of the only people covering the earliest days of the App Store... but this ain't it.

An important differentiator between these “timeless classics” and what we've done with historical preservation via GameClub is these new games already needed to be running on modern devices and iOS 14. Keeping them updated and maintained is the responsibility of the original dev.
