Automattic paid peanuts for Tumblr. Source familiar puts it well south of $20 million. Reminder: Yahoo paid $1.1 billion for it. https://www.axios.com/...

1/2 I'm very excited about Tumblr's next chapter and looking forward to working with @photomatt and the entire team at Automattic. I'm most excited for what this means for the entire Tumblr community. There is much more to do to make your experience a better one, and I'm super

Imagine if Tumblr had been an independent company fighting for the ad dollars that now go to Google and Facebook by default - they had scale, cultural impact, an innovative CEO, the whole deal. Instead Yahoo bought it and slowly crushed it into dust

Just wanted to add my congratulations and thank you to everyone at WordPress and Tumblr. Matt is a visionary, and the team at WordPress has built something absolutely foundational to the Internet. What an amazing home and opportunity for Tumblr. https://tmblr.co/...

I think the internet and adult content seekers will be fine. Life finds a way. If people want big policy changes here, put pressure on app stores of @Apple and @Google, no one else has any leverage. https://twitter.com/...

Tumbler sells for more than 99% off the original retail price ... seems like a big missed opportunity for private equity ... you could have changed some rules, trimmed fat and made a killing with this in the 1980s! pic.twitter.com/IRVBp1osKk

Tumblr getting bought and bought again only to be neglected, watered-down, and sold for spare change instead of growing to be a real competitor to Facebook and Twitter is like exhibit A in why mergers are bad

Yahoo bought Tumbr for $1.1 billion in 2013, directly promising not to “screw it up.” Verizon buys Yahoo, bans anything that even sniffs of “adult” content... and then sells Tumblr off to Automattic for *less than $3 million*. Damn. https://twitter.com/...

Verizon/Yahoo would've been better off just shutting down Tumblr quietly than having to live with the embarrassment of paying $1.1 billion to sell it for almost nothing just a few years later. https://twitter.com/...

I love @wordpressdotcom but the UI is flaky and times out an awful lot for a large service. Tumblr's best quality was ease of use. I'm hoping Automattic listens to the people they are bringing on board. They can help make wordpress better. https://twitter.com/...

Yahoo bought Tumblr for $1 billion and was written off when Verizon acquired Yahoo. Now it's going to be owned by Automattic, the parent company behind WordPress. At least *this* deal makes sense. https://www.wsj.com/...
