So three tech giants (Amazon, Google and Apple) spent many years and so much money on voice assistants that are now dead ends.  They're all trying again with LLM voice assistants. https://www.nytimes.com/...

I refuse to believe that Apple, a company with byfar the best design sense in this industry, didn't know that Siri has been terrible compared to their competition for years now.

I imagine there will be more to it over time, but this does not seem remotely ambitious enough to qualify as a “tentpole” project

Sorry but anyone who needed “weeks” to discover that Siri is *horrible* shouldn't be consulted any more.  Siri is as bad as Apple Weather.  —  0% chance of rain, my ass.

I'm curious to see how Apple reconciles this with their general “privacy first” position.  Because doing Gen AI should mean they'll vacuum up a boatload of personal data.  [embedded post]

NYT reporting $AAPL will announce Siri with generative AI at WWDC.  I believe this could open up a new revenue stream.  For starters, this will represents the biggest upgrade in Siri's 13 year history.  I estimate about 80% of Apple's 2.2B+ installed base can access Siri (1.25B a…

Apple execs tried ChatGPT last year and came to the conclusion Siri is antiquated. A functional digital assistant that can actually understand conversations and complete tasks would be a good reason for users to buy Android devices instead of iPhones. So they've panicked. [image]
