  In reading Sam Altman's original emails to Elon Musk about founding OpenAI, I'm struck by the idea that from the start AI researchers would get significant financial upside. Becoming a for-profit to compete with Google's compensation and resources was inevitable.

  Elon Musk has previously been reported as giving $100 million to OpenAI, but Elon's lawsuit says he gave more than $44 million between 2016 and 2020. I would expect Musk to give the biggest number he could here, which makes me think the $100 million number might be exaggerated?
