If Meta coupled ‘Meta Verified’ with this ad-free service and expanded it globally, it, without a doubt, would be a hit amongst nerds.  Instagram is filled to the brim with ads.  I don't want to see those.  If Threads ever gets ads injected into the feed, I would gladly subscribe…

As someone who detests Instagram ads and also spends a truly embarrassing amount of time in that app... I can't imagine paying $10 or more per month .. for one, this wouldn't do anything about spon con?  It also adds no additional features.. seems like Meta does not really want p…

the thing about this pricing is that it will make it very easy for Meta to make the argument that people don't want to pay and just want free ad-supported stuff, which is the company's whole position https://www.theverge.com/...

I give Meta until 2024 to inform European governments there's not enough usage of these paid Instagram and Facebook plans, so sadly, they must be discontinued...  [embedded post]

Meta will offer people in the EU, EEA and Switzerland the choice to pay a monthly subscription to use Facebook and Instagram without any ads. They can alternatively continue to use these services for free while seeing ads that are relevant to them: https://about.fb.com/... 1/4

€12.99 for ad-free Facebook scrolling in EU , just to give you an idea of ad ecosystem value to them as a single data point (and this still doesn't mean your data won't get used for training interaction models etc) https://about.fb.com/...

2/ My sense is that very few users will choose the subscription option in Europe; Meta will be able to use this low adoption rate to champion the ad-supported business model as a clear consumer preference.

I already see 10+ caselaw coming out of this, both in the scope of the GDPR and the DMA. https://about-fb-com.cdn.ampproject.org / ...

Whether people choose to use our products for free with ads or subscribe to stop seeing ads, we are committed to keeping people's information private and secure, under our own policies as well as the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). 3/4

Meta just announced requiring EU users to consent to being tracked in EU *or* pay for access. This mega July news thread is behind it. Fairly confident this is another delay tactic after 5yrs which violates GDPR...dropped as tech press await Google CEO testimony in federal court.…
