Nvidia forms the Open Secure AI Alliance, a coalition including CrowdStrike, Hugging Face, and Dell to develop and share tools for AI safety and cybersecurity
Nvidia (NVDA.O) said on Monday it had formed a coalition with other companies to develop and share tools for AI safety and cybersecurity …

Context & Ripple Effects
Nvidia is extending a pattern of industry coordination around secure and open AI: it previously joined a cross-industry secure-AI coalition focused on shared practices, while Meta and IBM’s earlier AI Alliance also made risk reduction part of open-source collaboration.
The new group arrives days after Nvidia’s chief executive argued that open-weight models can strengthen cybersecurity. With Hugging Face, CrowdStrike and Dell involved, the effort connects model distribution, security operations and enterprise deployment rather than treating safety as a lab-only concern.
First-order effects
- Alliance members gain a venue to develop and share AI-safety and cybersecurity tools, giving participating enterprises and developers a common collaboration channel.
- Nvidia broadens its role from AI compute supplier to convener of the security tooling and practices around AI deployments; Hugging Face, CrowdStrike and Dell bring model, security and infrastructure perspectives into that work.
Second-order effects
- Security vendors, model platforms and enterprise infrastructure providers outside the coalition may face pressure to make their own AI-security tooling more interoperable or participate in comparable shared efforts.
- Shared tools could lower the integration burden for organizations deploying open models, provided the alliance produces artifacts that are usable beyond its founding members.
Third-order effects
- If such coalitions yield adopted tools rather than only guidance, AI security could increasingly be shaped through shared technical infrastructure and industry-led standards alongside company-specific controls.
- The move reinforces a split in AI competition: firms can compete over models and infrastructure while jointly treating security for widely distributed models as a collective ecosystem problem.
The trend: AI companies are pairing support for open model ecosystems with collaborative security infrastructure intended to make those ecosystems more deployable in enterprises.

Attackers have frontier AI. Defenders need a frontier AI ecosystem—the best open and closed models, force-multiplied by a global community. During the Hugging Face incident, closed AI blocked essential forensics. An open-weight frontier model helped contain the intrusion. That's …

Remember these companies. And as expected, OpenAI signed on, but they're noticeably absent from the partnership itself. Which makes total sense, given how aggressively they've been lobbying to ban open weight models.

An outcome where AI is dominated by a few dominant frontier models is dangerous for America. Super negative for national security. The Hugging Face incident and Anthropic/DoD dustup are object evidence of the risks. Happy to see this.

A cogent explanation about what we are dealing with: do we want an ecosystem of like-for-like tools or monopoly lock-in? The former is better and benefits everyone. The latter only benefits a few. This especially matters on issues of security.

Good move by @JensenHuang. The Nvidia letter is well written and worth reading. As we saw with the OpenAI-Hugging Face hack, we need open models and harnesses for defense. Lets stop believing the PR that closed models are safer. - that's just regulatory capture.
