The App Store has long supported a meaningful commercial developer tier: Sensor Tower previously projected that 906 developers would newly clear $1 million in annual revenue across Apple’s and Google’s stores in 2021. But earlier coverage also showed mobile-spending growth outpacing installation growth, including slowing overall app-install growth in H1 2021.

The sharp increase in releases therefore matters less as a demand signal than as a supply-side change: low-cost “vibecoding” is rapidly increasing the number of products competing for App Store distribution and attention.
