One thing that's cool is how American policy on sensitive technology is decided by two corrupt pedophiles, Trump and Ludnick, making shit up.  Good odds the explanation behind this is something preposterous like ‘they think this creates leverage to take Greenland.’  —  www.bloomb…

@sporadica Pretty obviously it wasn't “divert an existing machine” but “expertise from lots of ASML former employees (many Chinese...), subcontractors, documents, etc.” letting China build one themselves using substantial ASML (and thus US export controlled due to tech) dev work.

The US government is accusing ASML of letting China get an EUV lithography machine. This seems bizarre to me, and no evidence was provided. ASML has pushed back, saying they can track where every EUV machine in the world is and that each one requires constant servicing by ASML.
  • @sporadica @sporadica on x
correct me if i'm wrong, but China getting their hands on an ASML euv machine is a WAAAAAYYYY bigger deal than like some Nvidia chips finding their way over there, fuck

ASML's EUV machines may have made their way into China, prompting fresh scrutiny from the Trump administration over possible violations of U.S.-led export restrictions. A similar alarm was already raised in late 2025, when Reuters reported that former ASML engineers had helped [i…

Who is leading this from the White House's side? Or is it just Pete Hegseth and Howard Lutnick sitting with Anthropic's engineers writing evals? [image]

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told ASML tonight that the US government believes that one of its ultraviolet lithography (EUV) machines may have somehow made its way into China. Senior administration officials said they have evidence that ASML is not acting in good faith. [ima…

$ASML What a bizarre thing to say. Especially with new machines. Next to export licenses, EUV machines require maintenance. It is very, very hard if not impossible to lose track of these machines in working conditions.

@TomChivers Turns out there's an even more nightmarish 2026 path where the Chinese get hold of an EUV machine 🤦🏻‍♂️ https://www.bloomberg.com/...
  • @egarciagarcia @egarciagarcia on x
If true, this couldn't be smuggling due to the size of the machine The US has outlined concerns to ASML that one of its top chip machines may have made its way into China, violating export curbs https://www.bloomberg.com/...

ASML's “we have never shipped an EUV machine to China” is telling on itself. Total lawyer answer. They know a decommissioned machine slipped through, at tremendous cost to American national security. [image]
  • @jukan05 Jukan on x
Holy shit, the U.S. government suspects that ASML exported EUV tools to China, or exported EUV components to China. [image]

until solid proof is provided i am going to claim this is fake and gay and glowing and just an excuse to try and snatch ASML for “american national security reasons” or something like that lol
  • @drewhawkswood Drew Hawkswood on x
The US banned the EU from accessing frontier models, so it's only logical for the EU to supply open source providers with the means to recreate frontier models. US Plays stupid games, wins stupid prizes. Lutnick can get bent, we are slaves to nobody

No one should sleep on this bit of tech news. While NVIDIA GPU smuggling was bad, this is an Armageddon-level situation.
