The best AI is having the freedom to choose what YOU think is the best.. for YOUR usecase. This is how Apple wins the AI war.

It looks like this is a Siri-ChatGPT style handoff, where Siri will be able to send requests to other apps to answer. It is essentially multi-agent, where you could ask Siri to do something then it sends that request to Alexa rather than Alexa getting full access to your device

narrative for a while was “apple is behind on AI” — which was true when siri was a bust after trying in house but now they're in a position where they're not spending the insane amounts of capex the other hyperscalers are AND using their models for siri dumb like a fox?

Welcome, come on in, the 30% waters are warm.

This is all completely separate from its - unchanged - deal with Google Gemini to help it rebuild its Apple Foundation Models and own technology underpinning Siri and Apple Intelligence.

Apple's move makes its hardware a bigger AI platform play, an idea it's been pushing in light of its first-party AI struggles. It'll make money by taking a cut of App Store subscriptions, like with ChatGPT.

Apple will let any AI platform - big apps include Gemini, Claude, Alexa, Meta AI etc. - to be queried in Siri if they enable an Extensions service inside of their iOS, macOS or iPadOS app. Apple will have a new section in the App Store. Unclear if there's an approval process.

Apple Plans to Open Up Siri to Rival AI Assistants in iOS 27 Update
  • @waltlightshed Walter Piecyk on x
@markgurman Will rival AI assistants actually be able to take actions across apps on the iPhone, or is this just another ChatGPT-style handoff? If it is the latter, how does that make Siri suck any less?

This new system means Apple doesn't need to strike one-off partnership deals like it did with OpenAI in 2024 and failed to do with Google Gemini.

I've never once wanted to use Siri in order to use ChatGPT.  The whole idea of one AI being a gateway to another seems like an unhealthy stopgap. www.bloomberg.com/ne...

Two things investors should keep in mind as Apple works to do something unique in AI: 1️⃣ The scope of their AI ambitions is bigger than last year's WWDC comments. It's now expected to include conversational AI and using Siri as a UI to access third-party models. The substance

This makes a lot of sense if you believe, as I do, that neither consumers nor enterprises will consolidate on a single AI provider. Owning the interaction layer will be more important than which model answers the question, and that is exactly what Apple is securing here. Siri
