iPad Air (2020) review: has an excellent screen, very fast processor, and is compatible with iPad Pro accessories, but it's expensive and has no 128GB option

Apple's chip team has done it again. The A14 scores a scarcely believable 200 on the Speedometer 2.0!! That's a 33% increase over the A13 in the iPhone 11, and more than 3x better than the finest Android chip (Snapdragon 865). (Thanks @gruber ✌️). https://twitter.com/...

I've been testing the new iPad Air for the past few days. It's the most fascinating iPad I've used in a while. My story: iPad Air Review: Forward-Looking https://www.macstories.net/... https://twitter.com/...

I've been using the new iPad Air for the last week- it's great. I don't miss the iPad Pro at all. But for its price, considering accessories, you might still want to consider the 8th gen iPad for performance value. https://www.cnet.com/...

I get 217 on the iPad Air, which makes me think there is _something_ going on where the Air is able to perform at least some tasks faster than the phones, even though they're both using A14. https://twitter.com/...

@jsnell Geekbench runs an optimizer to determine the optimal parameters for each Compute test. The parameters are very different for the tests that are slower on the iPhone. I don't know why this is happening, but thermal issues would be my first guess.

So @geekbench compute score for the iPad Air was 12k, versus 9k for the iPhone 12. Can't figure out why. Other graphic test apps showed them as identical. Which they should be. Quirk with GeekBench? Not sure what happened there. @primatelabs

@jfpoole it's been pretty consistent at 12k while the A14 in the iPhone is 9k. I started wondering if maybe the iPhones only have three GPU cores turned on, but other graphics tests seem to match... so I have no idea. jsnell at sixcolors if you want to take it to email https://tw…

It was here all along on a bookshelf in plain sight and I never used it https://twitter.com/... https://twitter.com/...

Great review! Totally agree with Viticci on the role the #iPadAir plays in Apple's portfolio not just of iPads but Macs too. Bringing the Pro experience to mainstream users with all the features that matter https://twitter.com/...

Some niche iPadOS multi-tasking news in today's iPad Air review: Currently, Google Meet and Zoom don't allow outgoing video (your camera) in Split View. Google told me that support is coming within the month and Zoom says it's on the roadmap. https://www.wsj.com/...

I think Apple really did a great job with this feature—but on the iPad I still prefer Face ID! I hadn't processed just how many interactions I was skipping until I had to touch every time I wanted to unlock something. Would love this on an iPhone though. https://twitter.com/...

2 speakers on the Air, 4 speakers on the Pro (and Pro is dual drivers on each speaker, if memory serves?) You get good, computationally widened stereo in landscape on the iPad Air 4. iPad Pro is still next level speaker beast. https://twitter.com/...

Okay I am very jealous that in my years reviewing tablets, I never thought of this analogy @nicnguyen has in her iPad Air review. “Tablets are like sporks: part mobile phone, part computer—not quite crushing either job.” https://www.wsj.com/...

Apple's edge in chip performance is even more astounding when you consider that their main competition has completely stalled. On the Speedometer 2.0, Apple went from 125 (A12) -> 150 (A13)-> 200 (A14) in the past three gens. Qualcomm went from 56 (845) -> 65 (855) -> 66 (865) 😬

🆕 MyPad Air Review: 1. New design, bigger screen, it's great! Still, it's an iPad. You know, the Biggest iPhone. Until you dress it up with lots o' accessories. 2. Using a mouse on an iPad is fantastic and you don't need the latest to do that https://www.wsj.com/...
