Apple confirms it'll discontinue iMac Pro after supplies end, says 27" iMac introduced in August is the preferred choice for the vast majority of pro iMac users

The iMac Pro was a stopgap computer and for that it was remarkably good. But Apple is about to finish crossing that gap. RIP big guy, say hi and thanks for everything to the Trashcan Mac Pro when you get to heaven. https://www.theverge.com/...

My iMac Pro has been the most stable, reliable computer I've ever owned. The cooling system is a masterpiece. It's lasted me over three years and shows no signs of needing replacement. https://9to5mac.com/...

(I think about the upcoming MacBook Pro nearly every day now. My old one has stuck butterfly keys, an exhausted battery, and enough bad karma to last a lifetime.)
  • @mg Matt Galligan on x
Now we just need Apple to make a 32" 6K iMac with 16+ cores and I'll have my perfect machine. 🤞🏼 https://twitter.com/...

-> Intel makes ads mocking Apple -> Apple discontinues the iMac Pro earlier than expected I'm sure these two aren't connected.
  • @lukemiani Luke Miani on x
Fwiw I don't see the iMac Pro coming back any time soon because it's simply not necessary in a world of Apple silicon. The M1X is probably gonna be putting base iMac Pros to shame already so just imagine once we get 2-3 tiers up

Finally, this was iMac “Pro” was the peak of Mac hardware hubris. Takes a lot of courage to release $5k+ disposable machines and never update them. https://twitter.com/...
  • @lukemiani Luke Miani on x
RIP iMac Pro 😢 You were always meant to be temporary but you served us well https://twitter.com/...
  • @caro_milanesi Carolina Milanesi on x
I so want the new iMac Pro to be like the Surface Studio: touch, tilt, pencil support https://twitter.com/...
  • @stroughtonsmith Steve Troughton-Smith on x
Taken another way, Apple is reasonably confident that its upcoming M-series processor Macs make a tweener product like iMac Pro irrelevant 👀
  • @rsgnl Joe Rossignol on x
I think the next iMac with an M1X or M2 chip or whatever will be so powerful that an iMac Pro will no longer be necessary. I also think the iMac Pro might have been a temporary “we still love you” gift to pros... it was part of Apple's “we're sorry” phase of the Mac.
  • @stuntpants @stuntpants on x
Sad. This was the best machine Apple made (pre-ARM). It was Osborned by the promised Mac Pro, which turned out to be a flop. https://twitter.com/...
  • @lukemiani Luke Miani on x
If you must have an iMac Pro I encourage you to buy used, you'll save a bunch of money. But also probably don't buy one anyway lol https://www.ebay.com/...

Oh dang... Is the Apple silicon iMac gonna be so powerful it replaces the iMac Pro? https://twitter.com/...
  • @bzamayo Benjamin Mayo on x
Wowza, can't remember seeing ‘while supplies last’ before on the Apple Store https://9to5mac.com/...
  • @4kapple @4kapple on x
RIP iMac Pro. Apple has neglected this machine since 2017 when it released as it has 3 year old chips and the regular iMac has better features such as a Nano-textured displays and better chips. The iMac Pro was a in-between machine before the Mac Pro came out and took its place. …
  • @whatthebit Stefan Constantine on x
What does an iMac Pro even look like in the Apple M1 era? https://twitter.com/...
  • @mg Matt Galligan on x
What's kind of cool to think about in Apple's discontinuing of the iMac Pro is that with impending 16+ core M1's there may no longer need to be a “Pro” distinction with such a machine. The M1 is just that freaking powerful... https://twitter.com/...

Apple discontinues iMac Pro, Apple Store says buy ‘while supplies last’ https://9to5mac.com/... via @bzamayo iSaw this coming. With Apple Silicon being as extreme as it is, all future Mac products will blend together when it comes to performance. Think iPhone.

RIP iMac Pro 😢🏴‍☠ ️ The iMac Pro was the very first Mac with a T2 security chip. It was released as a replacement for the 2013 Mac Pro. Both desktops never received a hardware update. Will the 2019 Mac Pro suffer the same fate? 🤔 https://twitter.com/...
  • @nrose Noah Rosenberg on x
This $5000 iMac Pro used a total power displacement of 140W to score 9385 on geekbench The $700 M1 Mac Mini scores 7400 displacing only 10W Now picture the Apple Silicon iMac that displaces 140W https://twitter.com/...
  • @dylanmcd8 @dylanmcd8 on x
This is so weird. It just feels so un-Apple. https://twitter.com/...

  • @saranbyte Saran on x
Looks like they're finally killing off the iMac Pro 💔 I highly doubt we'll see an Apple Silicon version of it though since the iMac Pro was just a placeholder for the Mac Pro in the first place, so I'm assuming the higher-end iMacs will just replace it. https://twitter.com/...
