Okay but let's keep in mind there were a lot of curiosity clicks. How about we let things shake out and give Threads a minute to build on what it starts to see is working (and who it is working for). https://www.cnbc.com/...

I gave Thre4ds a shot but it was literally just brands patting each other on the back. Why would anyone read that? At least Mastodon has the indie app/computer nerd crowd (ahem).

This was always going to be inevitable for Meta's Threads after it went super nova and quickly amassed 100M+ users in less than a week. According to this article, the number of daily active users (DAUs) were down about 20% from Saturday, and the time spent by users on it was down…

🤔📉 I wonder how Threads DAUs and cumulative user-seconds per day of phone screen time is doing? Lots of headlines about hitting 100M users, but I don't personally know anyone that is still actively using Threads. [image]

Meta Threads engagement has dropped off Usage time dropped by more than 50% The average amount of time U.S. users spent on Threads dropped from about 20 minutes on July 6 to just over 8 minutes on July 10. https://www.cnbc.com/...

The new & shiny honeymoon period is over; Threads settling in. Like I said on launch w/ tech media's “anti elon” hype virtue signaling - let's see where DAU's are in a month or three and frequency of updates and features. rn DAUs -20% and time in app -50% https://www.nbcnews.com/…

Is anybody surprised about updated Thread$ data?: -Daily Active Users (-20%) -Time on App (-50%) I'm not. 1/ not enough Elon haters to matter 2/Substandard experience -forced to see content you don't want to see -no desktop browser -substandard news experience -no lists -no...

Looks like this platform may see all time high device user seconds usage this week

Like I said, sign ups and DAU are not the same

It needs a chronological timeline and it needs it now. It's a different use case from Facebook and Instagram. It's unfair as it's only been up a week, but once you lose people, you lose them.

We're on day eight of Threads, and growth, retention, and engagement are all way ahead of where I expected us to be at this point.  But what I'm most excited about is the quality of the creator...

Hype can only carry a product so far.  Then people get bored, move on, unless they have a reason to come back.  I think the trending page on Twitter is that reason for a lot of people.  Also, there is still a lot of “growth posting” and meta posts about the platform itself rather…

One thing I like about threads is that it is hard to see if you are following me back.  It bums people out if they don't get a follow back on other social networks and causes a bunch of begging...

To be clear, we have a lot of work to do.  We need to resist the temptation to get wrapped up in the hype, avoid getting distracted by the naysayers, put our heads down and focus on making it better.
  • @stan.chudnovsky Stan Chudnovsky on threads
Threads demonstrated a miracle-like growth.  It'd be too naive to expect miracle-like retention and miracle-like engagement on top of miracle-like growth, but it feels that these are also trending above expectations and @mosseri just confirmed that. …
