Stories focusing on how exactly TikTok would be banned in a technical sense are understandable but it's really putting the cart before the horse.  The protracted legal battle is obviously the next stage of this battle.  And good to remind people that users are likely going to exp…

If @tiktok goes away, how will I advertise my books?  Are we really going back to meta and YouTube?  One person suggested clapper but isn't that an alt-right pipe line?

“No, TikTok is banned!”  Wrong, Bytedance has ONE year to find a company to host it in the states.  Rumors are one person interested is Steve Mnuchin (he worked in Trump's cabinet).  That would be a disaster for the app and would cause what they want, mass exodus of use with a ru…

I don't have a strong personal opinions on this.  Arguments for banning TikTok: - The app's ties to China could pose a national security risk - The algorithm used by TikTok to show content could be biased or manipulated by the Chinese government Arguments against banning …

I am hoping that bytedance never sells so that tiktok goes away it's a national security risk, a lot worse than our American apps such as Facebook

The House has passed legislation for TikTok inverstors to sell the platform to new ownership or be banned and that's very different from TikTok being banned now.  Please spread the news accurately and let it serve as a reminder to build your business on your own land, and not alw…

A @TikTok specific ban in the U.S. would be 💯 against the first amendment.  I don't see how anyone can support it.  Left or Right.

If you're curious what the TikTok ban would look like if the bill is signed into law and a Bytedance sale doesn't happen, I covered it last month: App removed from Google and Apple stores.  Tiktoks are still viewable but this suddenly becomes a big hassle. https://www.nbcnews.com…

Bundling up completely unrelated legislation should be banned.  TikTok divest-or-ban law is bundled up with Ukraine and Israel aid.

Repackaged bill means the Senate either gives a yay or nay to the whole bundle including the TikTok ban But the App isn't going to go away for years at least with Tiktok owner Bytedance likely to sue And most analysts expect a negotiated outcome in the future

Just in: The House passed legislation today that could ban TikTok as part of a wide-ranging foreign aid package, fast-tracking a major threat to the social media app.  The Senate could vote on the package as soon as next week: https://www.cnn.com/...

In my opinion, TikTok should not be banned in the USA, even though such a ban may benefit the 𝕏 platform. Doing so would be contrary to freedom of speech and expression. It is not what America stands for.
  • @sahilkapur Sahil Kapur on x
Politically important: This bill gives TikTok 9 months (extendable to a year by the president) to divest or be banned. That means it won't happen until 2025. Earlier House-passed bill in March gave 6 months, which if enacted then would've banned TikTok a bit before the election.

The House just passed another bill to ban TikTok. I voted NO. It's shameful that Congress is continuing to target TikTok instead of passing comprehensive data privacy legislation and addressing industry-wide problems.

It's no coincidence that the Uniparty is seeking to pass sweeping new powers to ban websites and spy on Americans at the same time that it bankrupts America with forever wars. This agenda is increasingly unpopular and can only be propped up with authoritarian tactics.
