Sources: Apple is working on a “Mac Studio”, which will be based on the Mac mini and come with an M1 Max or a more powerful chip

As Apple gets closer to its deadline for completing the transition from Intel Macs to Apple Silicon, the company is expected to introduce …

Why would Apple call the Mac with the new 40-core Quadro chip the “Mac Studio.” Let me explain.. For years, the point of the Mac Pro has been upgradeability. This new Mac Studio will NOT be upgradeable, but it's still immensely powerful, therefore it needs a brand new name. https…

Could this be what we get a “peek” at during the #AppleEvent? 🤔 https://twitter.com/...

Mac Studio with Studio display... not the worst naming scheme ever. They should've gone with AirPods Studio and it would have made more sense though 😡

I've wanted a mid-range “tower” from Apple for YEARS. If they do this, I will ship my pants. https://twitter.com/...

Apple also can't call it the “Mac Pro” because people will compare the 256GB RAM limit to the 1.5TB RAM limit on the Intel Mac Pro, and therefore call it a major downgrade. A new name means it's a new product class, so there's no previous Intel product to compare it to.

So about this Mac Studio + Apple Studio Display. I think, if this is getting more performance than the upcoming iMac Pro, I might have to go for this. Gonna have to look at pricing tho, I have a feeling this will cost both kidneys.

I have a feeling this will replace the higher-end space grey Intel Mac mini we have right now, especially if it's going to slot in between the Mac mini and Mac Pro https://9to5mac.com/...

Is this the missing Mac?! (My dream computer that's bigger than a Mac Mini but smaller than a Mac Pro) My requirements: Drive 3 high-res (4K+) displays with a good GPU. That's it. Please deliver. Don't care what you call it. (I call it a “Mac") https://9to5mac.com/...

Something is fishy with this ‘Peek Performance’ Apple event. - iPhone SE 3: Zzz - iPad Air 5G: Zzz - Mac Mini with M1 Pro: old news - 13" MacBook with M2: really? They announce M2 in the least-Pro device? I guess that's a “peak” at the M2 performance. https://www.macrumors.com/..…

iPad Air is reusing a chip, iPhone SE is reusing a chip, if there's a high end Mac mini with M1 Pro/Max, that'd be reusing a chip. Which leaves us with two scenarios that will justify this tagline. 1- The next gen M2 chip is launched. 2- Apple shows off some sort of “M1 Max Duo” …

Mac Studio... I like the sound of that! https://9to5mac.com/... via @filipeesposito

If they were to call it the “Mac Pro”, it would get confused with the Intel Mac Pro which I believe will continue to stick around because the new 7K Studio display will come with an A13 chip to allow the Intel Mac Pro to support the latest Apple Silicon software features.

I've been saying since October that M1 Max is not powerful enough to run their whole desktop line up to the Mac Pro.. hopefully we'll see something in between it and the rumored 40 core chip https://twitter.com/...
  • @zollotech Aaron Zollo on x
I've often wondered if Apple could make an M1 Max card that goes into the current Mac Pro to offer additional functionality and make it more valuable and sort of a hybrid solution https://twitter.com/...

Looks like the new external display with the A13 chip we heard about a few months ago is this new higher-end 7K Studio Display - I'm assuming we'll see this at WWDC, alongside the ASi Mac Pro https://9to5mac.com/...
