SDK

128 articles accelerating

Eight stories in 2026 Q2 shifted SDK coverage toward AI-agent tooling, billing disputes, and deployment controls after years centered on mobile and platform ecosystems.

Who they are

SDK coverage is a cross-cutting developer-tools category rather than a single operating company: it appears when platforms and startups expose software building blocks for third-party apps, devices, services, and workflows. The stories most often place it alongside Google and Android, Apple and the App Store, Microsoft, Facebook, APIs, and newer AI-agent providers.

The recent arc

Recent coverage has concentrated sharply in 2026 Q2, led by AI-agent development infrastructure. Google’s Antigravity 2.0 added an SDK for custom agent workflows alongside its desktop app and CLI; OpenAI updated its Agents SDK with native sandboxing and a testing harness; and Anthropic’s Claude Agent SDK became a pricing story when the company paused a planned shift to token-based billing after user pushback. Kyber’s $5 million raise for a low-latency remote-device-control SDK broadened the latest run beyond AI agents.

Earlier coverage was more closely tied to major operating-system and app-platform releases. Google’s Android M and Android 15 releases, Apple’s visionOS SDK for Vision Pro, and Google’s Android XR launch treated SDKs as the route by which developers could populate new platforms. The category also surfaced when access to developer tools became contested, as in Epic Games’ warning that Apple’s revocation of its tools would harm the developer ecosystem.

The tension

The recurring tension is between platforms’ need to attract developers with capable, broadly deployable SDKs and the control those same tools give their operators over pricing, distribution, data, and reliability. Anthropic’s billing reversal illustrates cost friction in agent SDKs, while Apple’s conflict with Epic illustrates distribution power; Facebook and Mintegral SDK incidents, plus allegations involving Anomaly Six, show why embedded third-party code can also create privacy, fraud, and outage risks for app makers and users.

Why it matters

If the present trajectory continues, SDKs will increasingly be a practical control layer for agent adoption rather than merely an accompaniment to an operating-system release: sandboxing, testing, workflow customization, and billing terms will shape what developers can safely build and afford to run. That could make SDK design and commercial policy more consequential to platform competition, though the corpus also shows that adoption depends on developer trust in uptime, privacy practices, and access rules.

SDK has appeared in 128 articles since 2015-01. Coverage peaked in 2026Q2 with 8 articles. Frequently mentioned alongside Google, Apple, Microsoft, Android.
