Dario Amodei is Anthropic’s chief executive and a prominent voice in coverage of frontier-AI safety, deployment safeguards, and the terms on which government agencies can access powerful models. The recent arc

Coverage accelerated sharply through 2026, peaking in 2026Q3, after an earlier confrontation with the U.S. Department of Defense. In February, Amodei said Anthropic could not “in good conscience” remove safeguards sought by the DOD; March coverage then focused on Anthropic’s planned challenge to the Pentagon’s risk designation and talks over a contract governing access to its models. June reporting added claims of tense calls with Trump administration officials, export controls on Anthropic, and a dispute over a reported Fable jailbreak. The tension

Amodei’s calls to slow or pace frontier development overlap with Altman’s in some accounts, but reported staff concerns that evaluators could compromise security show the debate runs through the companies as well as between them; Trump’s criticism makes the conflict explicitly political.
