big news, Adobe will reportedly acquire Figma in a deal worth around $20 billion. Figma is used widely inside Microsoft by thousands of designers and developers, and has been competing heavily with Adobe XD in recent years https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...

1/ Achievement unlocked: multiplayer design. Congrats to @Figma and @Adobe on an incredible new chapter together. @GreylockVC venture partner @johnolilly shares his reflections on partnering with Figma, starting at series A in 2014: https://greylock.com/...

PitchBook pegs the post-money val of the Figma Series A at $48.37 million, making for a 413x return @ $20B lmao on those funds https://twitter.com/...

Huge, huge startup acquisition: widely-loved design tool Figma acquired by Adobe for stock worth a jaw-dropping $20 billion!?! See the expert tweet commentary on Techmeme for great varied short takes on the news https://www.techmeme.com/...

i have known @zoink since figma's early days, back when we were both building products in the design world more than a decade ago. over the years, figma has meticulously crafted incredible products and built a remarkable team.
  • @scottbelsky Scott Belsky on x
today is a big day for both @Adobe and @figma. our teams are excited by the new possibilities and recognize both the opportunity and responsibility as we share our intent to come together. 🧵

W O W Adobe admits they got COOKED by Figma Just amazing execution from Figma, and Adobe is paying a lot in their defeat https://twitter.com/...

Figma acquisition by Adobe in 2 steps: 1. “Nothing will change folks, we're both committed to excellent collaboration!” 2. “We are now sunsetting the stand-alone Figma app and advice all users to transfer their files to Creative Cloud into the new improved XD app.”

Figma's valuation increased from $2B to $10B between April 2020 and May 2021. Sold to Adobe for $20B in September 2022. Solid business.

    We use @figma to avoid @adobe 🙈 https://twitter.com/...
  • @charliprangley Charli Marie on x
The best case scenario for Figma now being owned by Adobe is that they have way more resources to execute on their product vision. 🙌 The worst case scenario is the Figma team having way more resources to help execute on Adobe's product vision. 🙃

2021 was the year when startups raising money did it on valuations that have almost all collapsed by now. Figma raised at a ~$10B valuation then. The fact that they are selling to Adobe for close to double is nothing short of remarkable (also shows Adobe desperately needs Figma) …

“Taking out one of its biggest rivals” sounds like this will have a hard time getting approved by antitrust regulators. $ADBE https://twitter.com/...
  • @gavinsbaker Gavin Baker on x
And kinda funny given they've been telling everyone that Figma and Canva weren't impacting their business. Remember when Mulesoft was considered expensive? And that was at least Salesforce playing offense. Thoma Bravo feeling better about that Anaplan multiple.
  • @gavinsbaker Gavin Baker on x
Everything about this deal is wild. My first thought was this is the highest NTM multiple ever paid for a software acquisition over $1b - is this correct? Up 100% from mid 2021 series E - can someone fact check? $2b in incremental RSUs.

    2. @Adobe is deeply committed to keeping @Figma operating autonomously and I will continue to serve as CEO, reporting to @dwadhwani. We plan to continue to run Figma the way we have always have — continuing to do what's best for our community, our culture and our business. (6/9)

I understand this is a big change, especially for a platform you rely on every day. So I want to elaborate more on our plans for how this acquisition will work operationally and why I believe this is a partnership that will ultimately benefit you and the @Figma platform: (4/9)

I was going to post recently about how I never moved away from Photoshop and feel completely left behind by modern design tools (like Sketch, and Figma), but maybe now Figma's going to become part of the Creative Suite anyway 👀 https://twitter.com/...

Oh no 😰 Is nothing sacred in this world? Keep your hands off my tools Adobe. You scammed me years ago with your 12-month contract lock-in and student discount that quietly ends after a year, I vowed to never give you my money ever again. Please don't force me to abandon Figma. ht…

$20 billion for “a start-up”? I've never heard of Figma, but I'm gonna bet it's not “a start-up,” lol... Consults Google... “6 years old, $81 million in revenue.” Is THAT “a start-up”??? That said, they ARE paying a lot for it, lol. https://twitter.com/...
