[Translated from Spanish] “I WOULD LIKE Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of Facebook, to build a metaverse like the one presented by Andrés Manuel López Obrador in his Fourth Government Report. Whoever wants to know what the alternate reality is, simply has to see the presidential mess…

Big coup for @Qualcomm to get Mark Zuckerberg to endorse the deeper technology partnership with @Meta for virtual reality products at #IFA2022. Given the success of Quest 2 it will be interesting to see how the product platform evolves in this nascent category. https://twitter.co…

Huge thanks to @Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg for helping announce our new partnership at #IFA2022. Custom @Snapdragon #XR experiences combined w/ the Meta Quest platform will usher in the next era of #metaverse innovation. We are excited to work with you! https://www.cnet.com/...

@lmccary31 I agree with everything you said. Bizarre. But it could just come down to the fact an pure exclusivity deal would be far too expensive right now

@SadlyItsBradley Nice, interesting drama with Nuvia. Despite the heat Meta gets, they really have pushed the VR industry and are looking to constantly improve at every level. The lack of exclusivity is still confusing to me regarding Qualcomm + Meta

If true this is a big deal. https://www.moneycontrol.com/ ...

Eyeing competition with Apple, Meta is assigning engineers to work with Qualcomm on future XR chips. https://twitter.com/...
  • @tomffiske Tom Ffiske on x
I am interested in seeing how Meta will develop its own silicon a la Apple, and what it will look like. But for now, Qualcomm is a prime partner for the development of its hardware. What do you think?

“Virtual reality partnership with Meta is another way @Qualcomm is broadening beyond smartphone chips”...and I would add .. continues to defy the verticilization trend. https://www.cnbc.com/...

@SadlyItsBradley I guess it means Qualcomm will do what Facebook wants, the way they want, which will compete with Apple and give them a huge head start/boost over competitors. Like hand tracking methods are different between all the players but the chip will be designed for Face…

@SadlyItsBradley I wonder if there is more to it like, Meta gets to use the chipset first for X amount of time before they can start selling to competitors. By the time competitors have access to said chip, Meta is already using a new one
  • @tomffiske Tom Ffiske on x
For now, the chipsets will use the Snapdragon XR platform, but made in collaboration with Meta's teams for their long-term aspirations. The pros include better costs, power, and form design - though the Snapdragon XR chipsets are not exclusive to Meta.

The #Metaverse is only going to get better, thanks to new partnerships like the one between #TeamQualcomm and @meta! This will usher in next-gen Meta #VR devices and technologies. #IFA2022. Very proud to have been working with Meta for last 7 years!! https://www.qualcomm.com/...
  • @tomffiske Tom Ffiske on x
Meta and Qualcomm have signed a new multi-year agreement that will see its chipsets used for VR. But what I find more interesting is that, long-term, Meta wants to develop its own custom silicon for its hardware (similar to Apple, perhaps). https://www.reuters.com/...
  • @sadlyitsbradley Brad Lynch on x
Meta and Qualcomm officially announced a partnership to build custom chips for next generation VR devices The results of this partnership is not expected to have immediate results in Quest Pro, even though they're using a customized XR2 chip https://uploadvr.com/... https://twitt…

“The VR chipsets that are being designed as part of this collaboration are not exclusive to Meta, but we're excited to work together on a deeper engineering level [...]” Non-exclusive suggests we might be in for a few more rounds of what just happened w/ Quest 2 and competitors. …
