Bungie has limitless potential to unite friends around the world. We have found a partner in PlayStation that shares our dream and is committed to accelerating our creative vision of building generation-spanning entertainment. Our journey begins today. https://www.bungie.net/... …

BREAKING: Sony is buying Bungie, the maker of Destiny — another seismic gaming deal that comes just two weeks after Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard. Bungie put Xbox on the map. Now it's part of PlayStation Studios. Filed to Bloomberg Terminal, hitting web soon

Both parties did a decent job keeping this secret —several Bungie staff learned it from me this morning as I tried to break the news. Bungie held an all-hands meeting at 10am PT to tell everyone at the same time as it went public

Won't be long before all games are owned by companies that Apple has burned bridges with, rejected from the App Store, or is embroiled in lawsuits with 😛 These are categorical strategic blunders that will ruin future Apple platforms before they've even begun

With SIE's support, the most immediate change you will see is an acceleration in hiring talent across the entire studio to support our ambitious vision. Bungie will remain creatively independent and multiplatform. https://twitter.com/...

@WinkWinkerson I didn't say it was a good thing; from Apple's perspective, it might end up being a necessary thing

After the journey Bungie went through to be independent I'll admit I never saw this coming. But considering their long partnership on Destiny and D2 it seems like a logical fit, and Sony locks in a fantastic FPS developer to their stable of studios. https://twitter.com/...

Sounds like Wordle won't exist behind a paywall, which is great. Wordle works because it's free and online (accessible). Wordle makes a ton of sense for the NYT games' division and what it is. Whether or not it being “The Times' Wordle” makes a difference to players, we'll see. h…

@film_girl Could see Google or Apple trying to picking up CD Projekt Red

I guess they want a Multiplayer shooter, would be good if Sony was able to instill some of their core values into that wretched hive of scum and villainy. Maybe Destiny could become good. https://twitter.com/...

At some point, Apple's going to have to buy a big games studio just to not be locked out of the future completely. Wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being Nintendo

@stroughtonsmith So you think the answer is for one of the few wildly successful independent gaming companies to be added into the giant pile of neglected Apple gaming properties?

My take for the take god is that making a weird cool thing for free, giving people a lot of joy for a while, and then walking away with a bag of cash while someone else destroys it is really the best outcome any creator can home for in the current world. https://twitter.com/...

OK, so who buys CD Projekt Red? Cos that's the next obvious acquisition target, right? Or would it be Ubisoft that would be the next one?

I want Bungie to reboot Marathon, make it an Apple Silicon exclusive, and debut it alongside the iMac PiPP!N Atmark with Razer Chroma RGB.

As a service offering, Apple Arcade would benefit immensely from quality first-party titles. Nintendo is about the only big company left building small, family-friendly games with reasonable budgets. It's also the only console maker on ARM, which'd be killer with Apple Silicon

Microsoft bought Crash and Spyro, so now Sony is buying the studio that made Halo. Next I predict that Microsoft will buy Square Enix, then Sony will buy 2K, then Microsoft will throw mud at Sony and Sony will tell the teacher https://twitter.com/...

it's interesting to note that Jim Ryan wants to take Playstation “beyond consoles” I know somebody that was trying to tell ya this is where it was headed Console PC Cloud it's the future of gaming, like it or not https://www.gamesindustry.biz/ ...

this may be a “duh” thing, but I'm taking this to mean Bungie's upcoming IPs are definitely also live service to some extent, and they're Sony's spear for moving into that territory, even if they're not exclusives https://www.gamesindustry.biz/ ... https://twitter.com/...

Bungie says Destiny 2 will remain a “multi-platform game with full Cross Play.” Bungie will retain full creative independence for its games https://www.bungie.net/...
