Sources: Sony plans to launch a subscription service, codenamed Spartacus, next spring that merges PlayStation Plus and PS Now, to compete with Xbox Game Pass

namely current, relevant releases. “The second [tier] would offer a large catalog of PlayStation 4 and, *eventually,* PlayStation 5 games.” https://twitter.com/... Dom / @domsplaying : Sounds like PlayStation Spartacus will have 3 tiers though not the defining feature of Xbox Game Pass, which is simultaneous major game launches. Basically: Still charge full price for those. Which means the sub really has to be priced accordingly. https://twitter.com/... Brian Altano / @agentbizzle : Fantastic news and EXACTLY the kind of thing PlayStation should be doing right now. Can't wait for this. https://twitter.com/...

This new service, expected in the spring, will likely retain the “PlayStation Plus” branding. Don't expect Sony to include its big new games day one like Game Pass does, but the expectation is a stronger offering than PlayStation Now

SCOOP: Sony is planning a new subscription service, code-named Spartacus, to take on Xbox Game Pass. It's being pitched as a three-tier service that will merge PlayStation Now with PlayStation Plus. Highest tier could include PS1/PS2/PSP games https://www.bloomberg.com/...

This needed to happen. Gamepass was/is absurd value and Sony needed a response to that. Still a lot of question marks re: line up, reliance on cloud vs local, how long for new releases to hit it, etc, but this is a great move and big win for PS fans. https://twitter.com/...

Sony not including its new games on release but including old games as the premium kinda says to me they don't understand why Gamepass is popular and NSO got flak. Sony's entire existence in the video game market has been copying other companies but with less confidence. https://…

Don't see anything about Playstation exclusives being available on Spartacus day one with no extra charge. They do that, its a major W. Buuuut sounds like Sony doesn't want to give up on its $70 with each blockbuster exclusive. https://twitter.com/...

huge if true and TBH not surprising that Playstation wants their own version of Xbox Game Pass https://www.bloomberg.com/...

PS Now is...bad. So this type of subscription service is the next logical step to keeping some type of streaming service for the PS brand. https://twitter.com/...

there's a line here that suggests that playstation either doesn't get or is unwilling to replicate a key factor in game pass enthusiasm — namely current, relevant releases. “The second [tier] would offer a large catalog of PlayStation 4 and, *eventually,* PlayStation 5 games.” ht…
