So excited to share our new custom Google Tensor chip, which has been 4 yrs in the making (📎 for scale)! Tensor builds off of our 2 decades of computing experience and it's our biggest innovation in Pixel to date. Will be on Pixel 6 + Pixel 6 Pro in fall. https://blog.google/... …

i was excited about this, hoping maybe Google would be doing something along the lines of Apple to finally ditch Qualcomm and make a power-efficient chip, but they're bragging about how it's based off their TPUs and is great for AI bullshit integer ops can go to hell i guess http…

E.g., notice how Qualcomm always wants to pivot every conversation to the modem.
  • @slightlylate Alex Russell on x
Now, maybe Google pulled a rabbit out of a hat and did what no other vendor but Apple has: double up those caches! Not holding my breath w/ marketing like this, tho.

When CPU vendors *primarily* talk about something other than the CPU perf on their SoCs, you can be preeeety sure they're phoning it in. https://twitter.com/...

📲 @samrutherford sat down with Google's phone chief @rosterloh for a preview of the Pixel 6 and the new Google-designed chip that's powering it—yep, those rumors were true, too. https://gizmodo.com/...

The Pixel 6 looks like an actual iPhone/Galaxy competitor with a Google-designed chip. That's really refreshing after the weirdly cheap-feeling Pixel 5. https://gizmodo.com/... https://twitter.com/...

Here's a sneak peek at the newest Google Phones powered by Google Tensor - the brand new chip designed by Google, custom-made for Pixel. Meet: 📱 #Pixel6 📱 #Pixel6 Pro Both are coming later this year. We'll tell you a little about them in this 🧵 👇 (1/13) https://twitter.com/...

Material You will be best on #Pixel6. The colors, the camera, the form, and what's on the screen all work together in a single, fluid experience. (9/13) https://twitter.com/...

Hello 📷 bar! #Pixel6 Pro has 3 cameras, including a telephoto lens with a 4x optical zoom. #Pixel6 has the same great cameras as #Pixel6 Pro, just no telephoto. We're leaving telephoto to the pros, you could say 😉 (3/13)
  • @madebygoogle @madebygoogle on x
Switching ⚙️ a bit. Let's talk speech. Speech recognition is another foundational technology where you will see a huge improvement in #Pixel6. Google Tensor allows us to make big leaps in: Voice commands Translation Captioning & Dictation (10/13)
  • @madebygoogle @madebygoogle on x
The highlight of Tensor is that it can process Google's most powerful AI and ML models directly on #Pixel6. You'll see a transformed experience for the camera 📷, speech recognition 🗣️ and many other Pixel 6 features. (6/13)

Alright. One last piece of info: #Pixel6 and #Pixel6 Pro, powered by the brand new Google Tensor chip, are coming this fall. 🎉 That's all we're going to share for now. 🤐 (12/13)

Let's start outside and work our way in. #Pixel6 Pro will come in three color combos. #Pixel6 has three color combos too. Pro tip (ha!) - the Pixel phones with more space above the camera bar = #Pixel6 Pro (2/13) https://twitter.com/...
  • @maxwinebach Max Weinbach on x
Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will be the most impressive phones of the year and I don't think it's a competition. iPhone 12S better watch out.

Pixel 6 and 6 Pro look very intriguing, particularly that Tensor platform. Google finally seems to be fixing long-standing issues like sub-standard video recording. I just want these to launch in India 😫 https://www.theverge.com/...

If a life long iPhone User (not trapped within the Apple Ecosystem) switched to the Pixel 6 they would probably never switch back. Fact or 🧢?

I appreciate Google trying to do something different with the new Pixel but this is hella ugly https://twitter.com/...
  • @lisaeadicicco Lisa Eadicicco on x
The Pixel 6 feels much truer to Google's original vision for the Pixel: a high-end phone truly meant to challenge the iPhone and Samsung. Past couple of years have felt more budget-oriented and focused on the 3a/4a line.

4x optical zoom. Okay, looks like we might have the end game camera setup here if all of Google's computational photography chops are extended across each sensor. https://twitter.com/...
  • @reneritchie Rene Ritchie on x
I'll almost certainly get this as soon as it launches. My biggest wish for the Pixel remains that Google will pick a stable platform for the phone and then iterate on it for a good long while Every generation still feels like a repudiation of the previous one. Go long term! https…

Google is finally taking Pixel phones seriously. Google's Tensor chip is capable of running Google's most power AI & ML models directly on the device. Pixel 6 pro is packed with ultra-high end specs. Google is finally doing it. I'm crying out of joy. 😭 https://twitter.com/...

Not a surprise. Google Pixel has between .1% and 1% smartphone unit market share. “Abandoning” Qualcomm just may not leave that big a dent. 🤠 Guessing Exynos-based. $QCOM #Pixel6 #Pixel6Pro https://twitter.com/...

Google following Apple in designing its own smartphone chips. Remains to be seen what that really means here. But, Pixel still has minimal distribution and share - Google hasn't decided whether it really wants to compete with its OEMs https://twitter.com/...
  • @jake_k Jake Kastrenakes on x
glad to see google focusing on the pixel cameras again. still a big question whether shifting to a custom SoC has other tradeoffs though https://www.theverge.com/... https://twitter.com/...

Apple: Leak one potential iPhone case model before release and we sue you into oblivion. Google: Hey we've got a phone coming out in a few months why don't we tweet literally everything about it? https://twitter.com/...
