Microsoft buying Nuance is going to lead to the same sort of inane takes like when Apple bought Beats. Ignore anyone who says it's about speech to text or voice recognition and just visit Nuance's website today. You'll get it then. https://t.co/LkMx0rSspx

    The deals $MSFT has been eyeing in the past year are significantly larger than its previous targets. — Nuance ($16B) — TikTok ($10-$30B) — Discord ($10B+) — Pinterest ($51B) 2000's/2010's — Skype ($8.5B) — Nokia ($7.2B) — aQuantive ($6B) — GitHub ($7.5B) https://www.axios.com/...

AI is technology's most important priority, and healthcare is its most urgent application. Together with @NuanceInc, we will put advanced AI solutions into the hands of professionals to drive better decision-making and create more meaningful connections. https://news.microsoft.co…

I don't see this as Microsoft specifically buying Nuance's Dragon speech tech. Instead, Nuance's market-specific, purpose-built speech/AI solutions (healthcare, for example) seems very complementary to Microsoft's enterprise ambitions. https://www.bloomberg.com/...

Would be one of the biggest tech deals this year: Microsoft Is Said to Be in Talks to Buy Nuance Communications - Bloomberg https://www.bloomberg.com/...

With this acquisition (plus Tellme back in 06), MSFT has basically acquired all the big speech rec companies back in 2000 (except for my old company VoiceGenie which is now part of Genesys) — Nuance was huge roll up of all those old companies

Microsoft literally has a building here (Tech Center) in MA next to Nuance, so not too surprising that the companies have become so close that an acquistion would happen. https://twitter.com/...

Nuance's speech tech patent portfolio is prohibitively expansive, not that DoJ/FTC would care, obviously. ↓ https://twitter.com/...

@PofInt2112 Not sure if there's any Nuance tech left in Apple products, but if so, I think they're way less dependent on it than they once were.

Microsoft in talks to buy AI firm Nuance Communications for about $16 billion. Nuance whose voice recognition technology helped launch Apple Inc's assistant Siri, makes software for sectors ranging from healthcare to the automotive industries. https://twitter.com/...

MORE: An agreement could be announced as soon as this week, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the information is private. The price being discussed could value Nuance at about $56 a share https://www.bloomberg.com/... https://twitter.com/...

Once upon a time, Nuance was called ScanSoft. I happened to be visiting on the day in 2001 when it bought failed voice technology giant Lernout & Hauspie at a bankruptcy auction, its first move into voice. https://www.bloomberg.com/...

Some new details here: Microsoft approached Nuance in December, closing in on $16b equity deal for Nuance. Agreement could be signed as soon as today, deal announced tomorrow. https://www.cnbc.com/...
