LinkedIn confirms it's working on a Clubhouse rival and will begin beta testing soon, but doesn't have an exact timeframe for its launch

Clubhouse's list of competitors is growing.  LinkedIn has now confirmed it's also testing a social audio experience in its app which would allow creators …

TechCrunch Sarah Perez

Context & Ripple Effects

LinkedIn already had an invite-only LinkedIn Live beta for video broadcasts, giving its social-audio test a pre-existing live-content foundation. The new effort brings that live format into a market where Twitter had also put Spaces into private beta as Clubhouse-style products emerged.

The later plan for interactive audio-only events for creators shows LinkedIn’s experiment developing into a creator-facing live-events format rather than a one-off feature test.

First-order effects

  • LinkedIn begins validating a social-audio format inside its professional network, extending its live-content offering beyond the earlier video beta.
  • Clubhouse faces another direct challenger with an established professional audience and creator distribution channel.

Second-order effects

  • Twitter and Facebook’s parallel audio initiatives make creator access and live-event formats a competitive feature race rather than Clubhouse’s distinct category.
  • LinkedIn creators gain another native format for live audience interaction, increasing the importance of tools that support professional programming and events.

Third-order effects

  • If platforms keep folding drop-in audio into existing social graphs, standalone social-audio services face a market shaped more by incumbent distribution than by a separate destination app.
  • The pattern points to live social features becoming modular creator infrastructure—audio first, with video and other formats layered alongside it.

The trend: Clubhouse-style social audio is being absorbed into broader creator and live-event product stacks at established social platforms.

I think we may need to develop a CH protocol, something close to SMTP. That way, interoperability will be easier. - https://techcrunch.com/...

Overheard during LinkedIn PM meeting... “Let's just do what everyone else is doing, but after they do it for a while.” https://techcrunch.com/...

Since the weather turned warm enough to comfortably gather with friends outside I've been enjoying a new Clubhouse competitor called “socializing in person” and I think as vaccination gathers steam this is going to be huge.

Some really great additions to @LinkedIn profiles will be rolling out this week, including a dedicated space to add pronouns. Check them out: https://blog.linkedin.com/...

This is great news for @joinClubhouse. The only way for Clubhouse to not be overwhelmed by self-styled LinkedIn thought leaders was to have them restricted to LinkedIn 😂 “LinkedIn confirms it's working on a Clubhouse rival, too” https://techcrunch.com/...

Shout out to all the PMs out there that just finished the Stories feature spec and now have to move onto the Clubhouse feature spec.

It appears Clubhouse has a tougher road than Snapchat when FB decided to copy it. LinkedIn, Spotify, Bytedance, Facebook are some of the Clubhouse wanna-be. https://twitter.com/...

We are at three (3) large tech companies planning to clone Clubhouse in the last 24 hours. Slack: https://twitter.com/... Spotify: https://www.marketwatch.com/ ... LinkedIn: https://techcrunch.com/... Meanwhile, Twitter's clone is in beta and Facebook is probably getting close.

@levie And have the challenge of positioning of why they will win and how they can differentiate by leveraging (interest graph, social graph, channel graph, decentralized graph) 😅

LinkedIn has someone whose title is “group product manager for creator strategy,” and this strategy includes ... zero monetization tools whatsoever. So I found this story inadvertently hilarious https://techcrunch.com/... https://twitter.com/...
