LinkedIn plans to launch interactive, audio-only live events this month in beta for some creators and a video version in the spring
LinkedIn, now with more than 800 million people listing their professional profiles to build out their careers, is taking its next steps to get them to spend more time on the platform.
The new rollout extends that progression from profile- and feed-led professional networking toward creator-led, real-time participation, building on Creator mode and LinkedIn Events.
First-order effects
Selected creators gain an interactive audio format in beta, while LinkedIn stages a separate video version for the spring.
LinkedIn expands its live-product lineup beyond its earlier broadcast service, giving the company a new format to test with creators before wider video availability.
Second-order effects
The planned video version puts pressure on LinkedIn to distinguish event-led video from its existing live broadcast product so creators do not encounter overlapping live formats.
Creators using Creator mode gain another way to organize audience interaction, increasing the importance of recurring live programming alongside profile-based publishing.
Third-order effects
If LinkedIn makes both formats durable creator tools, professional networking on the platform shifts further toward an events-and-media layer rather than static profiles and posts alone.
A broader live-events stack would make LinkedIn's creator strategy depend more on sustaining participation during sessions, not merely attracting creators to publish.
The trend: LinkedIn is turning professional identity and creator tools into a real-time events ecosystem spanning audio and video.
LinkedIn is launching interactive, Clubhouse-style audio events this month in beta; a video version will come this spring “LinkedIn has been experimenting with other features that it might add to this events service, such as a paid, ticketed option.” https://techcrunch.com/... ht…
Counterpoint: if everybody else is building business conference panel software, but you're the logical home for a version that, not worrying about how it's working for other people is not at all dumb. https://twitter.com/...
Heh, I asked the two people running LinkedIn's creator strategy yesterday about when the platform's Clubhouse rival would launch...they declined to answer. Turns out I was early because the next day, LinkedIn launches its Audio Events feature in beta! https://techcrunch.com/...
LinkedIn can make this work for two big reasons: clarity of focus (work content/conferences/meeting) and soft content moderation (whatever you publish is tied to your resume). https://twitter.com/...
Finally after we first found it in March, LinkedIn's Clubhouse rival is coming out, along with a video events version. Although LinkedIn invests in Hopin and is owned by Msft, neither of their tech stacks are being used here. https://twitter.com/...
